Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Question About Voluntary Separation

I wanted to ask whether Citi currently offers any voluntary separation program or voluntary exit option that may include severance benefits.

I was asked to be RIFed after my year end review. My manager had been let go last year and the MD did not have a clue abt all the work I did. I was expecting a stellar review and got 3. I was burned out already and my ask was accepted and I was let go in April. So in my case it worked. Honestly very happy to be out of Citi.

I depends on whether you are "connected" and whether the dept. MD or Director has the budget to blow on your voluntary severance package. Like most corp. things, it takes a lot of yes's and only 1 no will stop the process. I asked & was denied. May 1st is my last day. No severance. Have a nice life & don't let the door hit you on the a-s on your way out.

I raised by had at year end review. Come January I didn’t get RIFd. 10 minutes after my comp call I submitted my resignation/retirement letter. Felt so good in the moment to have all the poser. Would have liked a parting gift but worked out fine.

Unless the OP already has an external job in hand and is now looking to cash in on severance and possibly also notice/non-working period money instead of outright submitting their resignation letter.

In this environment I would be wary about raising my hand. You send a message that you don’t care about work and your manager could sc--w you. you could set yourself up for being pipped which is no severance

Layoffs take a lot into consideration. Cost location, cost for your package, group, redundancy in your role, performance, etc. there is no VERP at Citi. Sure, you can talk to your manager but if Sally or Bob meets more criteria than you, they'll be cut and you won't. Now you've let the bank know you don't want to be there.

@OP

You're basically asking to be RIFd or laidoff, albeit voluntarily.

Is it possible? Yes. Talk to your HR Rep first, then talk to your manager before you hammer out an agreement/contract.

It seems like you already found an external job and looking to cash in on severance and possibly also notice/non-working period money instead of outright submitting your resignation letter.

I was told it needs to be approved if you are volunteering early separation.

Officially no. However if you have a good relationship with your manager, they can often help to get you "on the list". Keep in mind that the date that they let you go will be Citi's choice, and not your choice.
