Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Is the 30:70 - U.S:HIH split real?

I saw some comments about how there is a push from leadership to restructure teams into a 30:70 - U.S.:HIH split.

I wanted to see if multiple people can verify this.

I know HIH is growing and they’re cutting US FTE but how true is the 30:70 split? If it’s true, then that’s all of us finished in the US

@f9 I did. The leaders in my area at band 6 would say Sr. Leader vs. Sr Manager which is an entry level leadership role. That was the initial point

I think we all understand how reporting hierarchies work.

@f3 You clearly didn’t understand what @ew was trying to explain to you.

@ew I’ve led organizations of 200 plus here at a HB4 level. Once the position is approved through the financial cycle, I’ve never needed sign off from my band 6 to approve my hire.

I guess we have more autonomy in our area.

@e7 That’s a weird take. A managing director is a senior management level position and “hiring manager” is the term for the person that the new hire will actually report to. Basically the person who makes the final hiring decision.

It sounds like you’ve never had to manage a team or make hiring decisions. Certainly not at a high level.

@e5 A managing director or VP would never call themselves a “senior hiring manager”

@dv I'm calling b.s. on that. I have been a senior hiring manager for years (band 6) and while there was a period of time where diversity was actively considered in hiring, I never was forced to have a certain demographic quota or hire someone I didn't think was the right candidate.

@bb yup remember the dei dashboard. According to it we were 20 percent black 71 percent female. Yet only 7 percent Hispanic. I remember being told we needed to hire a woman of color and only interviews we did were almost all minorities. Management pushed it also as part of their compensation and review was based on it. It was very important when you applied for a position you checked the correct box.

@OP 100% true sadly. Heard it straight from the mouth and even saw it accounted for in org wide plannings. Goal is asap. The faster they backfill these roles the better in their eyes. Id start looking and interviewing now if you can while you still have a job. That way you can just abandon ship as soon as possible. Its gonna be a absolute sht show and im here for it. I do feel sorry for those left behind but at least the writings on the wall. If your still drinking the kool aid at this point you get what your asking for.

If they think they can replace IT systems guys with a high turn over HIH crew, they have another thing coming. Go ahead. Lets light this candle.

B4 IT manager here. Managing director told us 70:30 HIH:US minimum. One front line team is going full HIH this month. If you thought things were bad before, the will get worse. I used to spend 5% of my time dealing with escalations. It’s now closer to 50%, but the HIH manager for the people causing these is a people manager only so it falls to me and my peers and my best employees to deal with the fallout.

Remember the three or four years after George Floyd when executives told us repeatedly that we need to have a workforce that looks like Those We Serve?

@a3 Everyone should be very afraid of companies like Anthropic, Palantir and OpenAI. They are truly evil and the billionaire techno-fascists who run them, like Alex Karp, Sam Altman and Peter Thiel are very scary and creepy. Just read up on how they view us mere human beings.

Yeah that split is true. Been the goal for years. Some teams will have different ratios but your VP overall is looking for that.

The technofascists have taken over and it is true. Our company wants to copy them now.
