Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Tears and Upset - Someone handed me a notecard!

Pretty convenient that someone had a note card to trigger the prepared statement to have a Dad talk with the entire company. If you respond other than how we expect you to respond get ready to get in line! And tears!

Oh my sweet summer child (assuming you are not hr and posted in good faith)

That portal exists so you foolishly report criminality under attorney/client privilege (which is often exempt from discovery) so Nike can flag you, put you on the next RIF or place you on a PIP and destroy the evidence you have provided.

Even if the entire berm reports something, nothing would be done about it. Class actions only emerge from collective labor action.

If you see something wrong in corporate america you should:

Aggressively document and preserve everything in your cloud and laptop.

Consult with an attorney.

See if you can make a contingency based arrangement.

File with EEOC and OSHA, this is protected activity. If you get retaliated afterwards it will compound the liability.

Spread the knowledge around casually under plausible deniability, make sure you arent the only person that is aware.

Use the portal afterwards if you hope for a settlement and gag arrangement

Never ever report anything through the portal first. Never hand in evidence or provide every single detail. Let the su-kers do their own discovery (which is important)

Once you submit anything through that portal your career at this company is over.

@ga that is accurate. You are better off hiring a lawyer.

The Academy awards called. EH has been nominated for "Best Actor in a Leading role" - a first nomination for Nike in its 50yr history. I know we talk about coaching a lot, but didn't realize acting coaches were part of the team.

I understand why we can't afford wellness week with the business not doing well. I get it. However, how could one justify removing 4-week flex? Many of us work away from our families, need support from grandparents when the kids are off-school for the summer, or just need a break from the 4-1 commute. Why this lack of trust in staff's ability to work remotely for a mere 4 weeks a year?

The Speak Up Portal is laughable. It isn’t taken seriously.

@c2 Speak up and start exposing these leaders! Abuse in the workplace needs to be addressed. So does having intimate relationships with your direct reports. It doesn’t matter if you’ve left Nike, let’s expose these pathetic leaders so that Nike can actually recover from the real problem. Toxic leaders that are getting away with shenanigans that need to be exposed and fired. I’m pretty sure if people start speaking loud enough through the so-called Anonymous portal we might have a class action suit.Just Do IT.

@c2 You are correct. Speaking up to Nike HR is a waste of your time. Hire a Lawyer. They can’t hide the unethical behavior forever. I think it’s time that we start calling out the ones that make up this circus of toxicity and unethical behavior. I truly believe they are the very reason that we need a mental health break aka Wellness Week. Are you a current or former employee that has dirt? Start spilling the tea to expose the real problem.

A CEO tearing up over disappointment in Zoom chat because people don’t want Wellness Week to end. Not exactly a sign this “win now” turnaround is coming together. I’d recommend packing it up and looking elsewhere for work, but with AI-driven job cuts rolling through every industry, there’s nowhere to turn. Every Fortune 500 exec watched Elon Musk slash 80% of Twitter’s staff and keep the lights on, and now they all think that’s the playbook to follow. The technocrat-driven future is here, and it’s grim.

Gross to send out yearly emails on the importance of mental health and wellness week is taken out. Like that week was too much? People now have multiple job titles across multitude of categories and giving a week is too much? Speak up and report but if you do then you will be fired.

People can be sad benefits are being taken away and still put in the work…they’re not mutually exclusive folks.

TBH props to the folks who speak out in the chat, for those who are too afraid to openly express their feelings.

LMFAO!!! A “team” meeting where the first 40 minutes were about absolutely nothing.

Stock price at all-time lows, years of tech overspending with nothing to show for it, and aside from one solid running line, our products are mid at best. We’re following the pack instead of leading it.

And this is the big focus?!

Cutting one of the only things employees actually liked! The thing that gave people a breather and reminded them the company cared. Brilliant. Truly groundbreaking stuff!

Come on guys. WFH and wellness week is definitely why the stock is down. It couldn't possibly be the overpriced subpar products that are produced with slave labor and promoted by Satan worshiping celebrities. It's obviously our fault for enjoying some work life balance.
Now repeat after me, "Leadership made the right decision. I am so lucky to work here. "

What was Wellness Week doing negatively that taking it away will fix?

Working an extra week won’t make the company better, won’t sell more product, and certainly won’t move the stock price. It also won’t build a stronger culture or more loyal employees.

This decision feels like it was either overthought or not thought through at all. Either way, it’s a miss, and nobody’s surprised.

@OP Let’s actually just keep it real. None of these perks make it worth it. It’s just a break from dealing with toxic leaders that you have to come back to. Start looking for new jobs and start reporting every single matter of respect, policy violation and bullying event. It’s the only thing that will get rid of the toxic environment. People need to take a stand. This isn’t about the perks, it’s that we need these perks to get by in a toxic work environment. Sad and pathetic.

EH walked around his first nine months like he was everyone's buddy. Buying coffees. Buying lunches. Fake trust. Fake posturing. Just so he could kick folks out the door and now kick em where it hurts.

He is, in the end, the same old song and dance. Part of the old guard. Same garbage... and ultimately lies.

Not surprised Wellness Week is gone given the lack of comms about it. But the worst part of all this is seeing any these coworkers regurgitate corporate platitudes.

Just look at the window lickers in the cop-personal-finance slack channel saying things like “leadership made the decision so we should back it” and blaming wellness week/remote work for the declining stock price.

@ad It has nothing to do with culture war BS, "Wellness" was just a smokescreen to save a week of ETW hours on the ledger.

Now we don't have enough ETWS to justify it

Why would anyone feel strongly for a brand that has been systematically shoving us through a guillotine???

Most of tech is already in 4:1 and because people mess things up, we also get work late in the night to fix everyone’s problems. Y’all complain about tech yet we make it so y’all can just go for a run and not actually work all day while we work 90hr weeks to fix your sc--w ups
