Who’s supposed to pay my bills? Has anyone noticed the cost of living skyrocketing? Housing, mortgages, it’s all out of reach. Everywhere I look, there are layoffs. I’ve been trying for almost a year to land something else, just to get ahead. I got a couple of offers, but none worth even considering. I even looked way outside my skillset and in cheaper locations. Nothing. Feels like most of us are running out of options.

I have been in this industry 40 years plus. The one thing I have learned through it all is live below your means and save a good portion on your check each paycheck for times like we are seeing now. All my oil industry jobs have paid more than any other job I could have worked, so saving was not a problem. I was still able to provide a good standard of living for my family just by living on 75% of what I was actually paid. Stay out of debt and save, save, save.
When did the company take on the social responsibility of paying you bills?
@bh that’s funny
NO, no-one else has noticed the cost of living increasing...you alone have made this most astute observation...with such superior intellect I can't imagine you wont find a job making more than the current high salary you are receiving

You work in O&G. Good times are for weathering bad times. How many Raptors do you own?
@OP lighten up Francis
I have found it rather difficult to find the right opportunity outside of Exxon, although my criteria has been rather strict (international opportunity, same/similar pay, only looking at a select few countries). I haven’t tried to apply to roles within America, but everything I’ve read shows it’s a tough job market.
Good luck on your search if you intend to leave. I feel like it’s only going to get worse going forward for the job market, so it feels like a pivotal moment to either try and ride it out at Exxon or get in somewhere else before it’s even worse.
