Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Any other departments finding toxic atmosphere actively being created recently?

Works Council confirmed plan to move support roles to low cost locations but we're also being told that voluntary redundancies won't be offered on our teams. There's also no sign of mandatory redundancies. Instead it feels like there's a concerted effort in the support organization to get people to quit without redundancy payments:

  • Board member laughing that 100% of support tickets should be done by AI.
  • Tech support staff being openly referred to as 'just monkeys' by management on all hands calls.
  • Promised promotions don't materialize year after year for budgetary reasons.
  • Support being told almost all incidents will be handled via chat support, with the plan to demote everybody to nearly full time chat support.
  • Return to office mandate even for those with 5+ hour daily commutes.
  • New performance ratings where employees can be labeled as 'tin' for poor performance, ratings are hidden from engineers and depending on your role it's not possible to increase them.

SAP used to be a great place to work and I never thought I'd see what's happening at the moment, would be interested to know if this is going on in other lines of business too?

SAP does have goals on paper as one sap and one family. When I was with SAP, my management said all co-k and bull stories like that I am the only guy support PaPM across globally and you can not move to other responsibilities. That is true. Coming on april 16 th, I got invite from HR and My manager . I know that that is my termination notice. They sc--wed up my life from K5 to K6 in 2010 and no increments and no work life balance. Delivered all complex demos and support global sales and services team in SAC,PAPM,BPC,BW and other end to end solutions. At the end when I look back - I lost my valuable life and career growth while staying in SAP. Account executives and client partners, delivery managers are now working as VPs. I am out of SAP in humiliated way

Well whomever on this post predicted a big change this week was right! Must have been a significant difference of opinion since both had contracts until 2027 and presumably SAP was required to pay them through that period.

After extensively reading all kinds of material produced by, for or about the works council, it seems to be an impotent paper tiger. The Council says and protests a whole lot, but acheivements? I haven’t seen any (Unless, you count their “We disagree with / object to statements).

Just another tile in the mosaic of performative dysfunction that is SAP.

From Concur LOB. First line managers been told to manage against performance with increasing pressure from senior management with complete lack of strategic direction. There’s a lot of change that has happened to this LOB globally with that no consideration whatsoever or how it will impact results. Culture has completely died and unless you’re a producer you will be protected but the question is how long? If this is the future of this LOB and SAP there’s no way I’m staying this long

I was one of those people who didn’t drink the Kool Aid - I was submerged in it. I loved SAP and championed it at every opportunity. I resurrected a dying team and brought new life into it. I adored my colleagues and together we were performing at the highest level - with the awards and accolades to prove it. We were flying high and with my 365 and NPS scores off the charts, I thought we would go from success to success - we were working exceptionally well with our business partners and over achieving our goals. Then my boss, who apparently feared for his job, put me in the layoff pool - the only one on the management team and the only woman - and when I saw that that HR meeting on my calendar I knew that was the end. SAP may have challenges innovating and meeting tomorrow’s challenges or it may not - but when you callously eliminate people who were passionate about making SAP successful, and retain people who are only interested in keeping their job, you know you’re no longer in a growth company.

@3icq+1tGM6mW8 stop talking nonsense. There's nothing coming next week. If you knew anything, you'd say it. Being cryptic to stir sh-t is stupid.

Wait until next week for the most profound instantiation of this discussion and a spectacular middle finger to the entire company. The board will reveal a new low in juvenility.

Very many companies rise (pun intended) and then face an inevitable decline if they cannot innovate to meet the challenges of tomorrow. SAP will not be able to create the next generation of solutions, and the leaders are well aware, so the next 3-5 years, it’s about extracting as much cash as possible to garner personal wealth. The rest of us dedicated employees with integrity will keep working diligently for the benefit of our customers while management is fully focussed on their exit strategy and how to maximise personal income. There are already challengers out there creating much simpler, easy to deploy, ERP solutions, with investor backing, poised to take the market in a few years. Next time you’re on a plane, and especially if you’re in first class, ask your seat mates what they think about SAP. That will tell you all you need to know (and why our execs fly private).

CS&D QA call

RTO?
TS: If you can find a company as great as SAP that you can work remotely, you should go there.

Employee first?
TS: You misinterpreted the meaning, only applies to top performers. The rest, refer to RTO response.

Ok. Now we know where we stand.

@1aqe+1tGM6mW8 They oddly explained the repeated use of the term to reference support engineers as being a misconception and confusion on our part and that it was a "joke". Given everything else that's going on it seemed much more along the lines of an attempt to demean & denigrate further.

Yes, why are they calling people monkeys? That term would not go over well in the US.
