It's funny that we all keep saying how Follett's problems stem from years of bad management...well now there are none of the old guard left except carol winter...wonder if her announcement is coming soon?

end of an era
the company is disintegrating before our very eyes.
Nervous
Should they be nervous? Interesting article about new Follett store. http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20131106/NEWS/311060345

525 just sounds like a friend of mine who is all happiness and sunshine all the way (when the calamities don't befall her). It's hard to let things go and just move on to these glorious new wonderful possibilities when you can't feed your family... — read more
Gary Shapiro really gone? Is this a fact?
Wouldn't there be an announcement about this? Unless he walked out?
That million dollar donation was probably contractually obligated.
When going out to bid we often have to do this like this to keep a contract. It's probably a better option than just paying a higher commission. It's probably a tax write off, and they get good press. But they would usually only do that if the store... — read more

WTF 525 - For those still working for the company, maybe we need to wait and see how things turn out and try to hang in there with a more positi
You realize that when a company treats its employees poorly, even as they fire them, the remaining employees are impacted. Morale sinks, their opinion of the company changes and quite frankly they wonder if they are next. Why should they trust... — read more
@525 - sounds like an HR speak to me. Let the employees bond and grieve.
When you work for a company for a long time, and quite frankly do whatever it takes to get the job done including way more hours than anticipated, there is a relationship that is formed. Just as I used to be proud saying I like my job at Follett it... — read more

I think they meant Shapiro - Home Office SVP-IP. Office now empty. Not many SVP's left.
@525... I am a single parent. I only stayed while going to school as I had insurance. I worked full time and still qualified for food stamps,
That is all bad enough. Then I get called into an office and informed I no longer had a job, was paid and told I was to pack my things and leave immediatly. I could not tell anyone why and was told if I wanted to say goodbye to anyone I could come... — read more

what was his/her name?
@521 - I doubt it.
They have been very reluctant to share that info, even with departments that request it in order to better support stores.

525 wants the bad press to end. as a result of follett's internal struggle and lack of vision the employees who worked tirelessly suffer. this company is about to go into a death spiral.

Move On?
This seems like a great place to vent some anger, anxiety and frustration. But, at some point...everyone needs to move on, right? There is never a "good" lay-off, is there? Follett isn't the only corporation to take these steps and while is it sad... — read more

Will secret shoppers be sent to stores that currently have no staff? The reports could be quite amusing, but I'm sure the store would be blamed for the low scores.
List of store cuts?
Does anyone have a list by store or state where the cuts occurred ?
Hi Mary Lee!
Just checked that link to Mary Lee's Facebook page and shocker! It's been deleted. Could it be the lady herself is creeping on this page? Lol

I got laid off in March
I was laid off as of April 1. I had worked at FHEG for ten years. I kind of feel good about it now though, as I feel I was forced to switch careers and get away from a company (possibly an entire industry) in the process of collapse. I was given 3... — read more

Store "directors"
Most of the store directors I know are dinosaurs waiting for retirement. They are clueless as to what goes on at the front end. I could tell you some stories...smh

Agreed, but if we were able to look at Follett's finances, particularly at the store's where the layoffs occurred, I would say this goes deeper. Online and other retail competition from chains is putting pressure on these stores. Having worked in the... — read more

Hmmm. Turning 570 fulltime employees into part-time means saving $6,000 in medical insurance premiums next year per employee or $3,420,000. And Follett gets a 1-year reprieve from complying with the Affordable Healthcare Act. The new part-time... — read more
