Railroad may not have a workforce to layoff in the next round
Judging by the number of UP employees who are looking for other jobs the railroad may not even have a workforce to layoff in the next round. I know because I'm getting the resumes sent to me. I got got five last week alone. I gather the IT and... — read more
West Colton
The executives will be paying a visit to West Colton April 26th, a Friday. Most layoffs, terminations are done on a Friday, that is a fact, look it up. Now the 26th is obviously the day after payday, another way to lessen the blow. Ok but heres the... — read more

Say what? Rip car department

Read between the lines
I don't wake up in the morning, and say, I'm going to shut down another hump yard. If they can save on the touch points, if it speeds up the railcars and if it makes sense that it's a cheaper model to shut down the hump yards," said Vena, who added... — read more
Call your local news station and tell them what is really going on. UP needs to be investigated. As well as the FRA.
They need to get their heads out of UP's A-- and do their jobs. Such a joke!! I wonder which one will assume the blame when the trains start derailing left and right. It is already starting. No inspections due to no inspectors. No bad orders, just... — read more

End of May something is going down.

Just in how much danger are non-core positions at UP?
I work in IT, my team was cut to the bone, and we are working to the border of humanly possible, so I figured it would be impossible to cut more workers, unless of course, they plan to outsource the whole damn thing. On the other hand , there is that... — read more
People are only doing the bare minimum

How do they figure the OR?
If the income is $5b a quarter an OR is 63%, then it cost $3.15b to operate that quarter. Leaving 1.85b profit. Keep 500m and distribute 1.35b to shareholders. It would take 50m to lower it one percent. Correct?
The sad part is......
Anyone notice that operating ratio is only at 63%.....? The loss of the people gone plus the hiring of Vena.....there is still 8% more to go to reach the 55% operating ratio....

Is any other railroad company laying off in these quantities?
I haven’t seen any. Sure there are layoffs, but in these numbers and in such an organized and planned manner… no company is doing that. On the contrary, a lot of them are hiring. Is it possible that the UP leadership thinks they are the only ones... — read more

Wheres the buyouts?
Why doesn't UP offer buyouts to keep the young guys on? They have a hard enough time hiring when they need to that I just don't get why they won't do buyouts to avoid furloughing the young guys right now.
