For any who want to blame the layoffs for this, all you have to do is prove it. Like all past derailments that didn’t k--l anyone, this one will be forgotten soon enough. Move on.

Um the track was washed out smart guys.
It's almost as if slashing your workforce to the bone and working them to exhaustion will result in major accidents and safety issues.
UP won't learn from this. They will do what they always do, and apply a little bit of PR/damage control while they double down on the same management culture that is the root of the problem to begin with. Get ready for the next "stand-down" and a blitz of "courage to care" moments.
But hey, what's derailing a train of toxic chemicals when you have a tidy looking operating ratio to look at in a PowerPoint for the next executive circle-jerk?
Maybe they should have put 30% of their track into storage for just such an event.
OLE IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY! STUPID PHUUUCKS AND THEIR ACRONYMS
Is this common that U.P is having at least one derailment every 2 weeks?
With that much rain someone should have inspected the track (hi-rail).
It was the weather but someone will get blamed
They probably didn't do there risk assessment sheet or it never would have happened.
This story made me smile. I'm glad nobody was hurt.
