Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Now is a good time to fatten up your emergency savings

With the company slashing at it's own throat, it would be wise to prepare yourself for the worst. Find ways to lower your monthly expenses. Take the difference and put in an emergency savings fund. See if there's extra sh-- you're paying for but don't really need or want anymore, and get rid of them.

Aim to have 3 to 6 months worth of expenses saved up; a bare minimum of 1 month's worth.

Polish up your resume. Send a few out. Reach out to old friends and colleagues. You never know what could happen, and you've lost nothing if nothing comes of it.

If your situation is especially precarious, consider pre-filling out some government assistance forms.

I wish it wasn't this way, but we must understand that it's for those poor investors. We must tighten our belts, so that they can continue their meager lifestyles. Be brave, brothers and sisters, and we will weather this storm together.

Then it wasn't directed at you. But go ahead and have your 2 minutes of hate. Bleet, little sheep, and feel accomplished.
