I tried to give my family a heads up about the surplus event on Friday. That if they heard anything on the news, this is what is going on. But there was no news event. How does At&t keep this layoff out of the news headlines?

ATT is a company that no one should go to work for . They have cut throat upper management beginning with the ceo . their is no future to work for a company that uses their loyal employees to get what they want out of them and then discard them like rubbish. these are men and women who have families to take care of but ATT and the management could care less. My family gave ATT over 250 years of combined service and this is what we get after we built the company !!!! I am discontinuing all my service with ATT as of today. They can reap what they sow . good reddens.
Wonder why the question wasn’t raised about the non wireline cuts. Probably because Legacy cuts were what was announced to the media earlier this year. For all intents and purposes they are just announcing a update on that.

And now, we have a count - 1800.
Management has been going through this every quarter for the last several years, always with little and mostly no coverage at all. Has nothing to do with CNN or Time Warner or any of the other nonsense you conspiracy theorists are spouting. They stagger and spread out the numbers around the different districts and markets to keep them just below where reporting them to the media is a requirement. They do this with purposeful intent to avoid the negative PR to the extent that they can.
News flash there's more news channels than CNN...and of course it's owned by T...they are hemorrhaging viewers left and right

It's a big country with a lot of companies. Media doesn't like to cover financial news outside of CNBC or FBN. The real answer is all these media outlets have cut their budgets and staff. They like cheap stories. If the story isn't on the news wire or there isn't a press release issued they don't report it. The media is too cheap to do their own legwork and investigate. Unless the government issues a report or the company issues a statement they would have to find someone themselves as sources. They don't care that much. They like the low hanging fruit that costs nothing to report on.
I emailed the White House about it. He’s brazen enough to call out everyone else. Maybe he’ll do the same for ole randy. But I doubt it. I’m finding something else to do. Constant fear for your employment is no way to live life
Continual surplus activity is not news anymore. Just normal business for AT&T.

Post ID: @ZzHKcP9-mvg Excellent points. They could drop 13,000 people and you are only talking 5% of the workforce. Plus a lot of the news that came out originally highlighted the old Legacy business as the primary target of the cuts. Doubt many will get upset about what most think is outdated technology I.e. copper voice lines. Don’t believe that perception and what will probably be a small percentage overall is going to be a trigger for widespread reporting.

Even on the District 3 website there is no news or the spreadsheets of the layoffs. This site is about the only place that has anything about the layoff.
ATT covers up bad news like this by creating headlines like bribing Trump's lawyer. That keeps the surplus and discrimination abuses under wraps. Anyone notice that primarily minority males are getting the Layoffs?
Trumps big head would overshadow any news coverage of AT&T, besides, it wont be covered now that ATT owns TimeWarner.
@qbw, interesting point. My husband worked for a GM dealership ten years ago so I believe I bring perspective to that time period. True, plants were ready to close (mainly Chrysler & GM) and associated dealerships, employing tens of thousands were already closing....pink sheets were distributed to those dealers (over two thousand for GM and about 1200 for Chrysler) whose contracts were not being renewed and dates of closings, people now out of work......Millions upon millions were being let go and the Unemployment Rate was 11% nationwide. Even though the bailout saved just those two industries, the damage was continuing because the “Great Recession” was so deeply impactful and plants like Flint, Lansing, Bensalem were not shipping parts to dealerships.
But that industry impacted so many other small businesses that sold auto parts, tires, accessories, parts to body shops, and those businesses needed to let people go, .and so many others. The unemployed couldn’t buy New Cars or even repair their own. The trickledown effect was incredible, so imagine if GM, or Chrysler were not bailed out.......and BTW, they repaid the debt.
Is AT&T news worthy? Yesterday 911 loyal T’s were gone and I may be part of the next cut, but out of 268,000 employees ....0.34% of 1% is no eye catcher.
The news media is more interested in putting out negative news on President Trump.
The automobile industry took massive subsidies to stay afloat. They are closing plants and moving the work. Made national news. Trump threw a gasket. To this point they are still closing.
I saw wall to wall breaking news coverage on CNN yesterday.
It's not in the mainstream news because your union is not getting out to them.
