Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Should we fear Monday?

I don’t know is if the only one who can’t stop worrying this weekend, but I feel that there is a lot in store for us next week. Does anyone have any info, or maybe has heard something about where could the layoffs be happening next week and to what extent will those locations be impacted?

At almost 25 year seniority, the only thing that lets me sleep at night is knowing that I have a few rental properties and that they are all paid off. This is not the same company that I started with. I’ll keep taking their money until they throw out with the trash. Because that’s all I am to them anymore. I still do my job and I still care about my customers.

Quit worrying and being afraid. You need to man up. They can't k--l you. All they can do is surplus you and you get severance pay, unemployment pay and a chance to look for a new job where you don't spend your time being afraid.

Too many union goons in AT&T. They finally culled the herd which is good. This contract negotiations and threat if strike is outdated and a waste of time every 4 yezrs9

The union screwed itself a long time ago. The one thing that would have kept the union alive and strong for years to come was a no layoff clause for newer members. As i say this, i think the senior members should have demanded that as well during strikes. Look out futher than the next 3 or 4 years or whatever the length of the contract was. Let me pay a little more for health care, take an extra personal day, whatever the case may have been. I walked during strikes and was protected by the job security clause. Third generation telco employee...loved carrying on the tradition and proud of it. The union sold out the newer younger members and now look what they have on their hands. Why would anyone in a right to work state join the union? As the older members move on to retirement the union will be a skeleton of what is was and what it could have been. So sorry for those let go or will be.

And Tuesday, Wednesday... they want what all corporations want. ALL of the overhead gone...it really smacks the bottom line .

What you are watching now is called, " crashing by design ".

"Should we fear Monday?"

If you are non bargained, yes. Craft layoff numbers have been announced. We took our hit.

Our IBEW leadership team has the same mentality towards their customers (us dues paying members), that the company has towards their customers. Namely: “We’ll get to you, when we get to you.”

All of our managers have conveniently been absent all week, along with all of the union Presidents. As far as I’m concerned, they can all go screw themselves.

I bet it is safe to say that you too are represented by IBEW21. It is equally safe to say that they have been too busy golfing and enjoying weekend family time to care to respond in any detail other than to acknowledge the fact a surplus was declared several hours after everyone had been given notice via SIPP. They have claimed to be negotiating... HA HA. They have no leverage and the union members have zero faith in them!

The layoffs last Friday were quarterly layoff of Union representative workers. Anything this week should be non-union. With the number of techs laid off, I would expect a culling of the supervisory staff of these techs.

Keep your head on a swivel. Never know when someone will go postal. These are hard times for people who have given their whole working career to a company.
