Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Work environment and morale went Toxic

In about 3 months. It's one thing to have layoffs which most reasonable people understand. It's another thing to do psychopathic corporate moves to make your employees detest their employer in a strategy that 20-30% will resign. But then again acquiring assets for $75-$100B for the sake of your legacy without a viable plan or execution for creating value is as well. Surprised the media hasn't picked up on this yet. Would definitely make for a good story and outlets love a bash ATT story.

I will say since being forced back into an office there is no enthusiasm or teamwork. People are miserable & are just going through the motions to keep a job & stay under the radar. Can’t blame them. There is no collaboration, just misery.

Folks go out there every day bustin it and sweatin em off making chicken salad out of chicken $hit.

Customers are already pi$$ed off by the time we do the call ahead. We're constantly having to fix errors and $crew ups from the Business Office all the way out to the field(btdubs, we get no extra time for fixing everyone else's goofs) and all we get told is how we need to do it better and faster by somebody that doesn't know tip from ring, paper from pulp, or their a$$ from a hole in the ground. The plant gets worse but we're expected to get better.?. You can only get told that your good enough ain't good enough so many times before it starts to wear on you.

I am a retired tech.

They have surpluses since the 80’s.

At one time we had 42 techs on the crew. When I left we had 13.

No my problem.

At the end of the day they’d bulk the unfinished jobs to us.

If I wanted OT I’d get what I wanted and leave.

If I didn’t, I just went home.

They could have assigned every job in the Midwest to me for all I cared and when I wanted to leave I did.

Not my problem.

Bosses went home on time.

I did too.

@ZvcaS3u-mwc "There are folks who have been dumped with the work of 3 plus people and are going crazy"

By definition, you can only do the work of one person. Unless you are working 120 hours a week, which I doubt, cause you'd have to be working 24 hours straight for 5 days a week to accomplish that. If you are doing the work of 3+ people in a normal work week, then it just shows those people were only working a third of the time.

@svx, I’ll come across as a contrarian but I could name five or six conditions, not directly related ONLY to work, that would cause heart attacks....if they truly were. Diabetes, lung diseases and chances are fair that a few were smokers, arterial disease, kidney disease, high cholesterol, thyroid, poor diet, obesity, sleep apnea ...in short, most any major organ, or condition, that makes the heart work harder.

I know, stress might be a fair statement, and you could have a valid point....but to lay it all on one doorstep is not a fair conclusion.

One of my coworker was just having a nervous breakdown because of all of this. I feel sad and i wont be surprised if one of these days she may have a heart attack too. 5 people in our department already died since 2012. Heart attack.

Many of us "the resistance" are f---ing everything up, keeping many employed, that way we get more work to do.

ATO is rotting from the inside out, and we are just giving them a hand. this is not a job anymore, it is survival in the cesspool called Sh--ATO

Working with plenty of people who use to care and were good performers but have been reduced to simply not caring. It is rampant.

I second @mwc. We are getting run through the wringer in my group. It is absolutely miserable. I can only think this new process was put in place to fail. Yet somehow, some of us are making it work regardless.

I’m out in the next few months. Already have a plan on place. Just waiting until Dec 31 so I can get my bonus or the next surplus so I can self nominate. Whichever comes first.

Bs. There are folks who have been dumped with the work of 3 plus people and are going crazy. And yes that will ultimately make the competent people do one of two things

Either be foolish and quit and lose severance or

Become lazy and target themselves for layoffs (the smart thing)

Layoffs can't overcome the value destruction the executives have done and continue to do.

It's another thing to do psychopathic corporate moves to make your employees detest their employer in a strategy that 20-30% will resign

The problem is...50% of the people don't do anything around here. And, do you think they are going to leave? And i suspect 50% of the work force, is over 50. You think they can find another job? The problem is...managers are not allowed to manage. They have to keep head-count, in order to keep their title. They can't back-fill if they fire someone. IF they fire someone, then that means that person was not doing their job, and the manager was bad, by not firing them, years ago. You think they are going to get rid of anyone? Even if the 50% only do 1% of the work, its still 1% less that someone else is not going to be forced to do. St.op complaining and leave already, you are part of the problem
