Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How far ahead of the L1s are the AMs and directors in knowing when the next surplus is coming?

Surely they would have to have know at least some degree in advance of their direct reports? Do you think McElfrish would make the comment he made yesterday about believing the majority of ATO management surplus being "behind us" if a major one was going to happen this month?

I had a lot of clues from my director the last year, I don't think she was able to keep a straight face over the phone while pretending not to know.

There have been times over the years when management down to the 1st level's knew what was about to happen, I know this only because I've been friends with one for almost 40 years. Even though they knew what was about to happen they were told in no uncertain terms that they could not mention/tell/or hint at what was about to happen till the official notice went out. Now in today's climate and for the past several years, AT&T upper management lies so much about so much, they assume that everyone below them is just like them. Projection I think it's called

I know it's not a popular theory, but I do not believe that he would have made that statement if more large scale surplus events were imminent. I know, I know, I'm naïve and a big dummy. I just don't believe he would have said that if there were more coming this year. Keep in mind this is just ATO management, hard telling what's going to be happening elsewhere.

Most AD level and Leads do not know. Those things are done at the L3+ Director level. Sometimes they clue in the ADs for input. Most of them can keep secrets, which is why they are ADs. If you’re a contractor though, even the Leads over you usually know your fate and helped decide it. So if your a contractor and cut, your lead knew already.

Sitting on your butt doing nothing won't exist in 5 years? If history is any guide, I think not.

What next surplus? we already had dozens over the past year and a half in lots of locations all over the country. We all should have known this was coming because for the past 5 years Stephenson has been spouting his 2020 objective. What did everyone think that meant? As for currently, I am not feeling there will be another surplus in my area for quite some time again. That doesn't mean forever just for the next few years anyway. If not already a college graduate. I would suggest you enroll and get a handle on the next best job you will ever have because its highly doubtful what you are doing now will exist in 5 years. welcome to we mail it to you service.

I think mine knew, all of a sudden he made me master in WFE and overrides all my QC requests without question or calling me. Oh yea I'm sure he knew something was up and I was in the list.

Probably not, but remember a majority can be as little as 51%.
