Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Project MIDAS

Look it up, we are going from having 4 video platforms to 2. Uverse sales stop real soon people. I know we will have the funny people on here that say it’s not happening, but everything I have posted in here has happened.

@ZokQAf4-1wbh These satellites only last 10-15 years because they have limited fuel to maintain their orbit. If they don't launch any more, then probably done within 10 years. But, that assumes 5G and all this IP infrastructure will be rolled out and remove the customers. If for some reason there is still 20 million paying satellite customers willing to pay full price, then I guess they put up more satellites or sell the service to someone who will.

Project MIDAS is product marketing’s I oat ice to be more streamlined. In addition project scope will include rebrand from 4OTT apps to 2. This is legit.

@ZokQAf4-1hah Sure, directv streaming sounds wonderful, but how do they plan to get the stream to my house? Where's the transport? At least the Satellite can get to the house.

Yes customers hate directv satellite but they will love directv streaming. THAT is what will replace u-verse. Like the other poster said, if you have u-verse, then streaming directv will be your new service eventually. Not the satellite service.

Here’s the deal , if a customer’s circuit qualifies for u-verse, then it qualifies for directv now or directv’s upcoming osprey stb. I had u-verse. It was great. However, I switched to directv satellite because I was tired how U-verse seemed to take up my internet bandwidth even when no one was watching tv. Well, that’s because the dvr would be recording two shows and that right there could be about 12 to 15 Mbps. Directv satellite completely s---ed. So I bought my own Apple TVs and switched to the directv now app. It’s great. At least it’s great on Apple. I heard it’s not so good on roku. I love it more than U-verse simply because of cloud dvr. I’ve recorded up to 18 shows at once (got tired of seeing how high a number I could get to after that ) and it doesn’t affect my internet speed at all because of course it’s done in the cloud. Picture is great , channel flipping is fast. Directv streaming is the future for the company. Customers will love it more than U-verse because as I said , it frees up more bandwidth for internet. It’s much much cheaper for att to operate and maintain than U-verse. U-verse is going away. More customers like me are migrating to it for above reasons.

They've been saying for several years that DTV was going to replace Uverse. But things didn't quite turn out as Randall and friends envisioned - customers HATE Direct TV and want nothing to do with it.

Given that it's AT&T, they will TRY to get rid of 2 platforms, but will also need to add new ones, because the ones that remain s--- so badly, and do not meet the needs of viewers or keep up with the competition.

What this typically means in practice is that 2 platforms will be the poor stepchildren, but they can't really get rid of them, and 1 or 2 new platforms will be created, to "replace" them, but they will s--- so badly that they will have to keep all of them.

No matter, since customer support won't be in English anyway. :)

as a uverse dedicated employee, "real soon" is inaccurate. but of course, you know way more than we who actually produce the product do.
