If you are over 50, do you still care about your work at AT&T? Are you engaged?

My office closed. I had a chance to move with ATT and blew it. Decided to take package. I regret it now and want desperately to get back in! I had over 30 years....what are my chances in getting rehired???
I stopped caring during my first surplus in 01. I’ve been surplused two more times since then and likely getting surplused again on the 14th, so my care level is about as low it possibly can be.
I made it to 60 and I loved my job. Now I am enjoying my retirement. As long as you have your health, family and finances in order, life is good.
I used to work from home almost every day for about ten years. I'd go downtown once in a while when the weather was good in order to go to out to lunch or hang out after work. I volunteered for a severance. I took it, leveraged COBRA, state unemployment payments while looking for gigs. I retired some months later on Social Security, Medicare, full deferred T-pension and 401k. Life is good.
I must say, that working from home was great in terms of avoiding the costs and perils of the daily commute but it was no holiday. I worked more hours per day than ever before and my productivity soared being away from the distractions of the office. But alas, I was ready to bail out and glad that I did.
Why wait?

I care. Not because I care about AT&T but because it is in my work ethic and expectations of myself. Maybe that isn’t stressed enough in different generations or families
Keep collecting the check...stay low, keep your numbers up and keep moving! My boss has way to many problems to pay much attention to me! On CRUISE control! 18 months and counting till I’m 62!😜
Take it day by day. Wait for an offer.
@kls, keep the faith as the World Health Organization now recognizes “burnout” as an official medical diagnosis....I kid you not! Saw a short piece on GMA this morning.
It would take too long to explain, and any news cite will have it, but certain criteria must be met. Some of the short answers are exhaustion, inability to perform work functions, etc....you can take it from there.
So the next time someone ever accuses you of being a “burnout” you can tell them, “Sir, with medical certainty, I believe my doctor agrees with you.”
Nope. The coming to work everyday did it for me. Im seriously burnt out. Spend too much on gas, parking plus expressway just to be on time. While at work i give at least 2 hrs of work, that's it. Always interrupted and cannot concentrate with people talking near me.. so nope. Not gonna bother.
Me and the company have an understanding. I don’t want to be there, and they don’t want me there. We just kinda tolerate each other.
No. Why bother? Nothing to gain.
I'm 40 and I don't care because apparently mgmt doesn't want us to care.....been a good ride, gonna ride it as long as I can, but it's just a job.
The only numbers I was concerned with I saw every other Friday.
Engage all you want... won’t matter.
Be on time, every day, ready to work and let the higher ups figure the rest out.
Why bother with anything else?
Not going to be popular but here goes. I am over 50 and have been with this company dating back to the Ameritech days. I have no complaints. I’ve been treated fairly, paid fairly and provided with a generous benefit package. Simply put I do what I’m paid to do. I speak up when necessary but again roll with the changes. The company was forced to compete with the telecommunications act of 1996. That was a game changer. It was/is a great job with great compensation and benefits. I’m a union represented employee.
Anyone left at at&t who thinks this is a long term career is probably not too smart. Myself and almost everyone I work with work hard and is committed.
It’s just broken top to bottom.
The 20 something’s get paid pretty well to build a resume. The 50+’s also get paid pretty well to transition to retirement or a brand new career.
The old’s aren’t holding back the young’s any more than the young’s are replacing the old’s.
The economy is good, if you want something other than what At&t’s offering take it.
