There are scheduled occupational declaration windows. For 2019 layoffs, 1st quarter was 12/14/2018, 2nd quarter was 03/15/19, 3rd quarter is 06/14/19, and the 4th quarter is 09/13/19. If layoffs are declared during these windows, the actual layoff is around 60 days later for most titles.

The company can declare a surplus outside of these announced windows.

Layoffs in the SE have been announced on the 15th of the last month of each quarter for over 20 years. Good luck to everyone!

WOW, so I guess the safe job to have nowadays is an INSIDE tech job. Going to be putting in a transfer asap.

Sounds like they are banking on all this new technology hitting and actually working on schedule. Getting fiber placed is completely different from getting it working and customers rolled. Have seen instances where customers were working on copper even though there were existing fiber facilities. The field techs seemed to know more than the Engineers.

Up to 30% of construction, mainly OPT’s and FT’s this quarter is what we’ve been told by our first lines, the union, and what has been confirmed on the leaked email from HR a couple of months ago. Looks like there will be waves of layoffs and the next one will come for these techs on the Dec 15th announcement. Wire/Prem techs will be on the Sep 15th announcement. The upcoming one will actually be on Friday June 14th due to the 15th being on a Saturday.

I heard about impacts due to budget constraints - not sure about who would be impacted - employees or contractors.

Yes. Expected to be a very large surplus of outside techs.
