Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone still working Remote?

Anyone here a rebel or just dont give a flying fooock and still work remote? Did someone contact you? Did your manager find out? I am wondering if there's really repercussions or its just a blank threat to make our life miserable.

McElfresh did not give the directive to be in the office 5 days a week as someone below stated. He said it was up to the orgs. I am under Porter and I only report in 3 days per week now (was WFH previously). No issues from upper mgt.

The issue with telecommuting in ATO is that it is different for each group. Those that are forbidden see those that aren’t & it makes for a very nasty work environment. Using SAFe as an excuse to herd thousands back to an office when most are not in a SAFe role is the most ridiculous thing ever.

If there is no working lan port at your work space use VPN. After all the managers are fired there will be a larger than normal surplus. No need to worry.

@ZiGns77-3aih: That’s a McLoving directive not Marachel.

I believe everyone under Marachel is doing 5x a week, no vpn. The lady is following failed yahoo CEO Marissa, her hero.

Just because someone works from home, does not mean they aren't working. As a remote worker, I wake at 4:30 and if it is a 'gym' day for me, I am out and back working by 7:00. And if I decide to sleep in until 6, I am on the computer earlier - at least by 6:30. I am literally at my desk until 4:30 or 5.

I save the company money by working from home. They have never paid for my desk, chair, internet access (I am out of the 22-state area), desk supplies (paper, pens, stapler) or my printer and printer paper. About 10+ years ago, some of the organizations tried a similar effort and CRE complained because of the financial impact to their org due to space limitations, furniture, phone lines, printer supplies, etc.

AT&T used to offer relocation for almost all positions - not any longer. I know someone who was working remotely and was laid off. At the same time, they posted his position in ATL and never asked or offered it to him as a possibility to relocate. But then again, I digress. After all, he had been with the company a long time and this isn't about age discrimination right?

The company taking away the privilege of an employee working from home is a costly gamble.

Downvote all you want.

I made it by doing what they asked-no matter how ridiculous. You want 2 cones out? I’ll put 3.

You , with that attitude, will not. But keep complaining here.

To be honest , this complaining about actually having to go to work is exactly why they say you have to.

If it saved them $$$, they wouldn’t change it. I’d bet they either want folks to quit or the work from home folks aren’t pulling their weight.

I was told to move to a city 120 miles away or quit. They often made me take cr@p work trucks.

I was not hired to work in that city. I didn’t b!tch, I moved.

34 years later I retired.

If your job can be done from your kitchen table, it can be done cheaper in India.

They sign the checks, they make the rules.

You are free to quit.... or just keep appearing foolish to the rest of us.

The company shall survive regardless of what you do.

The decision to return workers to an office is to simply reduce workforce without severance. With this decision driving down morale, I believe the leaders int he company are hopeful employees will either seek employment elsewhere or take retirement.

I have worked from home for 14+ years now - often 10-12 hour days. Initially we all were told to go into an office (closest for me is just over 50 miles away). Most of my team is further out from their nearest office. Skill set on the team is unique so leadership said 'hold for now'. My plan is if I need to drive into the office, I will. However, they will not get one minute over the 8 hours I owe them each day.

And seeking a job accommodation to work from home is a joke. The IDSC is so overwhelmed and backlogged that they can't get an answer to an employee for at least 45 days.

All I want is a severance ... and I'll happily leave.

@ZiGns77-1kel No, like millions of Americans the employee agreed to a working arrangement and without agreement by both parties, the employer altered that arrangement without justification or wage adjustment.

Maybe this doesn't outrage you this time but we can guarantee there will come a day this affects your own wallet. If you don't see it now I doubt you'll be smart enough to understand the difference then.

Hopefully there will be plenty of people around you that point and laugh at your situation.

There is so much fear for those workaholics such as myself who are fearful of using VPN at home prior to commuting to work and upon returning home in the evenings which is fine with me as my prior 12-14 hour shifts are now 8 hrs in the office and then gone for the day with no worries......C'est la vie...Asta Manjana...I have come to find that life is a lot less hectic. I may not get as much work done but life is so much easier.....Tomorrow is another day is my new mantra.....

Most of ATO was forced back in, based on a bogus ‘you should be excited to collaborate’ BS story. No one is collaborating, offices are unsanitary, crowded & loud. Folks are tired from long commutes, lugging equipment in, scrambling for a seat. A toxic, unproductive environment. Upper management are completely removed from reality.

no engagement zone or hub or satellite in my state, been working from home for past 10 years, I was told to not bother going into the local office as they don't pull reports from this building. Retirement eligible so hoping to be on the next surplus list.

Supposed to go in 4 days a week. Some weeks I make it that much some weeks I don’t. My workload more than doubled. And I was already working 10 hours a day. And when I go in I don’t stay the whole day. Half a day at most. It is too noisy to get any work done at the office. I hate having to listen in on everyone else’s concalls. This open concept work environment is terrible for productivity.

Any word of layoffs in McElfresh Org with Tech/Dev? I know a lot of good employees were let go in the January 28 surplus.

My occupancy status was changed from FOW to FTO about two months ago. Nobody told me in advance or whe. It was changed. I had a reason to look myself up in webphone when I noticed it. In a 1Q town hall hosted by our AVP (in ATO) we are required to be in the office every day.

Folks may want to confirm theirs has not changed.

I'm classified as TW and until I'm told otherwise, I'm going to continue to do it. I go into the office when necessary. I'm not worried about VPN and badge access swipes or any other kind of report. If my job performance isn't enough to keep me employed then so be it.

Not doing it! Go on occasion, like I always did. I know they do reports but don't care and don't ask. Guessing I might be on some "list" for surplus. Fine with me. Retirement eligible.

If they want to get rid of you it is just another bullet for them to use. Letting the company get this fat was criminal. Mini empire after empire can be found who are nothing but slog and a drain on the bottom line.

I think it's safe to work remote as long as your reporting office is in an engagement zone. If you are not in an engagement zone, it doesn't matter if you use VPN or not.

I’ve heard several folks close to retirement have flat out refused to drive to an office. Some managers have instilled VPN usage fear into their groups, others are a bit more flexible. It’s an exercise in futility at this point.

Depends on who your boss is...one group was told to not work a second on vpn and another will allow some limited working from home. You are definitely been tracked if you do.
