How is it? Do you have to know somebody to get ahead?

No. You don't need to know anyone to get head at AT&T.
Worked there for 11 years.. unless you are a minority or a woman.. Yes its who you know.. Who cares about your record breaking results.
This is a ridiculous string. All employees are promoted or hired on merit.
Nepotism is needed because leadership at T requires a certain psychotic trait that is passed on through the gene pool that demonstrates you are able to withstand and promote a deceptive and toxic work culture.
OMG...wake up....It is all over the company.....one hand decorates the palm of another....What was that slogan "Friends & Family"...the old MCI jingle....I thought it was bad in Legacy T land but it appears the same if not worse in the new AT&T as SBC folks help one another as do Bell South...etc etc...
I have seen this all over the company, and it's getting worse. What's the naming rule on this board? VP and above allowed? Look for a last name that rhymes with O'Burn and see how far the nepotism knife cuts.
Let’s be real many of the managers move up by kissing a-- and making fake friends, a lot of the higher ups are come from the LDP programs and look after each other. It is who you know and do we like you that’s how many people are dodging surpluses in Dallas
No
If you don’t know, your boss, then don’t plan on celebrating.
Related to GM / Director will get you into non-bargained 2nd level job whether qualified or not.
It doesn’t matter what level in the company you’re on if you know someone you’ll be ok. Also .. location, location, location. If you’re in a place where T is investing (ie Dallas) you’ll be good.

It happens. Have seen executives kids come in and pop up the line pretty quickly. I believe some on this forum could name some of them. Doesn’t happen in their line of business. Of course these kids aren’t coming in with a GED and have grown up around the business.
Never seen that in my 29 years. Employees related or in relationship, always seperated at work with different management lines. Of course knowing someone or s---ing up to your boss never hurts.
