Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will T make the transition?

Honestly, How do you think A&T will make the transition to being a media company, or whatever they plan to be with the acquisition of Warner? Are we really doomed like the people claim we are, and if that’s the case, what does that mean, exactly mean? What’s T’s fate if it doesn't succeed? Is it just going to be eaten up by debt or what?

I think the company has lost its focus on what our main business is. Connecting the community either thru Wireline, Wireless, ISP. All the other stuff 2020 was based on is just clutter. They have a really high level view of what they want to do from an income perspective, but have not a clue on how to execute at the detail level. Actually the company is not set up to execute the details that are required to get the most value out of what the vision is. They are relying on innovation - which hasn't really happened unless they go out and purchase it. Most of the products they bring to market are a day late and a dollar short and inferior to the competition. Too many side projects going on that fizzle out with failure.

It doesn't appear likely. That's why the stock price is so low.

Randall and the John are clueless on how to run a media company. Media success requires creativity and independence, the exact opposite of the conformist by the rules mindset that SBC micromanagement has always demanded.

Meanwhile, the company is abandoning its core businesses and leaving them to starve. Competing in today's telecommunications and internet marketplace is challenging enough as it is.

If you want to see AT&T's debt ridden mismanaged future, look to General Electric's recent past.

Some venture capital firm will perform a hostile takeover some day after the stock craters during the next recession. The venture capital firm will then extract whatever value is left by selling off the parts. A huge going out of business sale.

RS did mention one issue in the US. Having to deal with all the different municipalities as far as deployment of the equipment in the field. Doubt if a clerk in China will make Huawei jump through hoops if the government wants it to happen. Can you imagine them saying no because the antenna doesn’t blend in well enough with the cactus background.

AT&T along with the US has lost it's way. Just read the June 3, 2019 article on how Huawei is the leader in 5G technology worldwide. AT&T/Bell Labs/Western Electric used to be the world leader in telecom equipment. Thanks to government intervention back in the 80s and subsequent corporate mis-steps we aren't even in the game. We are now focusing our efforts on making "super-hero" movies. A sad situation for sure. The article is in Time magazine.
