I understand this might be a stupid question, but I’m in the situation that I was layed off at AT&T but mannaged to find a job at another company. I’m awaiting severance payment, but when I got the new job I contacted AT&T to get my recommendations. So as I’m awaiting severance AT&T people know that I’m employed now. Does that affect severance in any way?

I did it.... got the severance pay and 60 days on the books 'looking for a job internally'.... I found a job about 3 weeks into my search and 'double dipped' for 2 weeks!! It was NONE of AT&Ts business as far I am concerned, they didn't want me, and as a manager I did not have to do anything for 60 days anyway before off payroll.... So I stopped doing my job immediately and started the internal search (joke) and external search, job interviews etc....
Nope. I left on a Friday, and had a gig lined up with a different company on Monday. You will get your money.

No, it's yours. The only situation where this would not be the case is if you find employment within AT&T internally or you are brought back on as a contractor for AT&T. IIRC, the limit for coming back as a contractor is 60 days, AT&T internal is 6 months.

Good friends who are former employees gave me good counsel.
Don’t tell at&t anything. They have been known to offer you a position after you find employment elsewhere. In this narrative if you decline at&t’s offer within 50 miles from your current work location and you do not accept their offer, at&t is not obligated to pay you severance.

Severance Pay is compensation to leave the Company involuntarily... you get paid after off payroll for a few weeks... ... it’s an agreement to leave... yours to spend... not affected by new employment
It doesn’t affect your severance payments from AT&T if you go to another company.
