Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Basking Ridge feels like 1970s Soviet Union.

The executive responsible for Aol/Yahoo received a $60 million severance package. All of his initiatives failed. How could anyone put in extra hours or effort when performance is not rewarded at Verizon?

Many of us just go upstairs to the kitchen for food. Ah the joys of working from home.

@9tiz, you got furniture and vending machines?

Well except for the gym complete with personal trainers, Starbucks, on-site dry cleaners, world class cafeteria, every two years remodel.... You might want to go to some of the other locations.... stained carpets, water stained, leaky ceilings/ roofs, bathrooms with 1/2 the stalls and sinks not operational(for years), furniture from the 1980’s, no cafeteria except for junk food vending machines and the gym is taking a walk outside. Execs should be ashamed of themselves for letting people work in these conditions while BR is the Taj Mahal. Take a tour of the Freehold Data Center 3rd floor for example....

Thank goodness there are no haves versus have nots in America @5vff. It's all so equal here, unlike your Moscow analogy.

It's more accurate to compare the company to the Soviet Union, and BR is Moscow. All the resources and perks are pulled from the field while Moscow aka BR, bask in all its glory. Gyms, coffee bars, food truck festivals. Must be nice.

When will our wall be torn down?

How many Central Office kitchens, used by people with a loyal 25 years here, go to buy one single golden parachute for a two- or three-year failing interloper?

There was a time when a microwave oven in one's truck bin was not unusual, as many brown-bagged it for lunch, and it was a nice way of having a warm meal for lunch, or a hot drink (as it's often cold out there), without being "off base". Eventually a claim was made that the electric circuits on the truck's were being damaged by microwave ovens (though that never seemed a problem in the past). We were ordered to remove microwaves from our trucks and that, should we want to heat up our lunch, just stop at the CO of the area we found ourself in at lunchtime and use the kitchen facility each CO had. Then, suddenly, all the CO kitchens in my area were vanished or were sealed off.

The new trucks are not allowed to idle either (and in fact automatically shut off after nine minutes or so). Rather than sitting in a freezing truck for lunch, it then became a nice alternative on a winter's day to use some of your lunch hour to defrost at a CO and, again, use the kitchen facilities. But I guess this was seen as too much of a creature comfort for associates. Our kitchens went the way of our Christmas Eve appreciation lunch out (then breakfast out, then breakfast in, then... nothing).

I hear BR is a magical utopia with a gym, a dry cleaner, massive cafeteria... It's hard not to feel like a 2nd class, unappreciated peon out here.

The braintrusts at BR should come visit any CO sometime, where Lowell literally ordered the tables and chairs taken out of the breakrooms. Good Riddance to that guy. I just hope Hans is not a wolf in sheep's clothing.

@1uac stop telling lies, plenty of stirring sticks and coffee at no cost to employees along with tea, spoons, forks, knives in the draws at the station. There is also nondairy creamer along with many sweetener options. There is no water delivery because there are water machines with built-in filtration system. You obviously do not work in the buildings to spew lies. Anyone at BR knows that they exist and we even have our own full size Starbucks where there is also always a line. And yes a large gym. Let's not forget the offer of 50% off of dry cleaning coming up next week and that we even have a full time medical office with 3 medical doctors. Heck we even have unmanned concession areas to buy snacks and drinks. So @1fnl has it correct with their statement.

We don't need coffee stir sticks @1fnl because there's no coffee machine, there's no longer a kitchen area for a coffee machine/refrigerated milk anymore, and the water deliveries were stopped. Perhaps someone got a bonus with the money saved to make life here more livable. I am proud to say we do still merit toilet paper, though it's akin to sandpaper.
