Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Lockout Ohio District 4 Thoughts / Insight

Heard from a manager here in southern Ohio that AT&T may do a lockout. Anyone else here this. Any thoughts / insight what this might mean?

District 4 will have a contract after the next round of lay-offs. They are planning to merge TFS and IEFS. They will cut head count first then miraculously agree to a contract.

There already locking out all the managers for not doing any work. AT&T won’t lock out craft employees because the managers can’t do any work because their wussies.

If the Union plays it smart ( and that's a big if with Union Leadership these days ) a lockout won't happen because the Union will wait until California and Bell South regional contracts are also up for negotiation before considering any Strike call.

One region going out on strike AT&T can handle. ( Why do you think they manipulated the regional contracts to expire at different times ? ) Three regions going all at once is far too much for them to cover with the remaining workforce. Becomes very difficult to get those deadline CRE projects done on time if you have no one in region to do them for you . . . . . .

AT&T is going to do everything it can to sweeten the Midwest contract deal to prevent all three regions from being in any position to negotiate with power.

"The problem I see is this 20-20 plan coming to fruition during the life of the upcoming contract. If AT&T succeeds in the massive retirement of landline, there are going to be layoffs that the job guarantee offer won't be able to accommodate. That's where the impasse is at.""

Great post !! So why doesnt the Company make offers for craft to entice the people to go 2 and 2 ...3 and 3 etc!!!

True

They can’t do a lockout unless a strike is called

Right now, for some reason that escapes me, an "impasse" hasn't even been declared. Nor, has the company imposed "last, best and final" terms.

Right now, the deal under the last year of the prior contract continues, and ka-ching, the paychecks keep coming in.

The problem I see is this 20-20 plan coming to fruition during the life of the upcoming contract. If AT&T succeeds in the massive retirement of landline, there are going to be layoffs that the job guarantee offer won't be able to accommodate. That's where the impasse is at.

The hyperbole on both sides is funny. Driving to the office, like many folks do everyday, should be considered a OSHA safety issue for the Mgrs and the techs work in pits during sleet storms, in July.

@fkd & @jfw....didnt know we still had many cable repair folks that still slice 'em open....mostly froggers, pair changers, and bypass wire hangers. Either way not enough managers that could do any of it anyway!

Lock out the last few guys who havent quit this sh-- show. Mismanaged this company into the ground. More leaving soon, no surplus necessary. Treat guys like sh-- long enough and keep wages low youll get what you want. Companies in shambles and its no ones fault but management pukes.

@ZdJV4vk-lkj No. As someone stated it’d be bad PR. Imagine how customers would react to service degradation and slow response times because they locked out their employees who are also now collecting unemployment.

Could it force a vote on their offer?

That would be on par with the recent big decisions the company has made in recent years. “Instead of keeping the existing workforce, let’s bring in the 14,000 skilled replacements that have just been sitting on their couch the last year and a half hoping we would call” Cmon man. Managers couldn’t handle the load for 4 days last time. Now they are getting cut in every org and morale could not be lower. They will be in no hurry to hang on that ladder midspan in 40-50mph wind and open up a cable. Trust me.

I’d love a lockout! The company definitely has to pay unemployment then!
