Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The last two ATO surpluses

In Jan 2019 and August 2018 were called days and even weeks in advance by this forum with a high degree of accuracy.

What has changed that all we have now are these vauge dates and numbers that never seem to manifest?

@4nky, enjoyed your post and assuming your not a troll, and further assuming you’re management with knowledge of your own June 24th notices....can I “assume” this is a “leak?”

Most of those who knew what was going on and posted were either surplused or are no longer given advance notice at their level because of leaks. Other orgs have layoffs planned in June so I would think ATO would too. Our notices go out June 24

This all started with the ATO email in January giving indication of multiple surplus activities in the coming months. It was vague enough that ever since that email every time I hold a team meeting with my group I get employees reaching out to me asking if they are going to be surplussed. Every week folks are just hanging on with the stress of not knowing if the company values them enough to keep them around. The stress of uncertainty is not good for productivity.

ATO Feinstein call was yesterday 5/22...5% is the number we were told are impacted....All will find out who is in and who is out in a few weeks right about the time folks identified the date as 6/14. Just one question..What is the psychology of bringing a larger universe on these initial surplus calls than those actually targeted to be surplused?…..Folks will all sweat it out for a few weeks until they are told they are out or they are safe....Why in God's name put so many through this barbaric ritual rather then just identify upfront who is surplused?. It is certain that the names are already given as to who will be going..Therefore, why put undue stress and pain on others who in the end will not be surplused?….It is a given that they already know who will be leaving by the time they have the first call....It is a cruel and unnecessary practice and not good for overall morale.....

@2hyh, I heard that same “rumor” the beginning of this week (regarding Tech Dev, no date suggested) but perhaps you’re hoping for a voluntary “show me the way to go home” and I wouldn’t get your hopes too high....the voluntary ship may have sailed. The good news, it would make gathering Unemployment an automatic.

Either way, good luck.

Techdev - June for mgt employees with a confidence level of 97%, specific date not known (at least not by me). I am a volunteer for surplus, time to get out of this rat race

@1ktw, sounds like you’ve seen this method of operation before. T gave me my “walking papers” three years ago (through hard networking and solid longtime contacts I avoided the Surplus) but, as you mentioned it was a Friday email for a Monday morning call.

In past Surpluses, as in mine, it has been the morning calls that have been the harbinger of bad news, afternoon calls giving the ‘All Clear.’

If you ever get that “VP level email” get proactive. If you want to stay then network hard, starting with that same Friday afternoon....don’t wait three days to discover your fate, pull out that little black book of contacts.

I am L2 ATO. I suspect you have not heard anything because nothing has been announced. As soon as a VP level email is sent out of the blue on a Friday afternoon announcing a call for the following Mon or Tue, you will know it's coming.

I guess ATT learned from their mistakes and identified the leakers, but for the technicians in TFS and IEFS the list was leaked couple months ago that shows all potential layoffs for the whole year 19

June 14 for craft and June 3rd for management. My 2 cents not confirmed just the consensus.

I think that's the point. When you see a high degree traffic and consistency of the information then the surplus is coming. This also means that we have a real timeline and a surplus is close. When the information is all over the board and no consistency then you can bet no surplus is currently in execution mode. Planning? Sure, but not within the 2-3 month window.

Perhaps the people who were in the know have been let go?
