Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Walking papers

I was just notified I will be losing my job in September. I am a lineman out of the Roscoe garage. 18 + years of service. Has anyone heard of companies hiring laid off AT&t employees with this much experience? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You might get a job with the contractors that will place the fiber cable for 5G.

“He said he was a LINEMAN...they don’t know any hi tech lingo....except for hand me the shovel!”

Disrespectful dolt. The hell you know about that man’s experience. Finding humor in his misfortune makes you a terrible person. Grow up..oh too late.

Get your CCNA certifications and start applying for IT positions with companies. You’d be surprised how many IT DEPTs will hire an ex at&t employee just because they understand the lingo ! Don’t sell yourself short. You’ve probably forgotten a lot more than the average person has learned. Also most IT personnel hate working on their voip phones and prefer an in-house “phone guy” to deal with them. Lots of job opportunities out there my friend and you’ll be much happier. I also suggest you apply at your local county municipal complex or courthouse and/or county sheriff dept. They tend to hire ex phone company guys too as they have a mixture lot of old copper circuits as well as the new fiber ones. They need folks who can talk to at&t and help diagnose and troubleshoot their circuits and equipment. If you are veteran , that’s an extra foot in the door. Good luck. I’m sorry you have to go thru this.

I didn’t think they could lay lineman off since there are contractors placing cable still?

Might want to check with the union . Best of luck .

I'd consider the Job offer guarantee. Also, check with the power companies. They're hiring lineman here and will train to handle electricity.

Look into the Transitional Leave of Absence if you meet the modified rules of 75 defined in your surplus informational booklet put out by HR. It will bridge you over to 20 years for the pension. Good luck, my friend!
