Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

The PepsiCo Way

I just read several dozen suggestions on The PepsiCo Way and it was brutal! I/T is being beat to a pulp. For those of us still standing in I/T, it was never meant to be like this. Most of us enjoyed our roles and chasing down issues. We thrilled at working with users and learning the business. It truly was a passion, not just a job.

In the past few years we have cried, cursed and mourned as new leadership came in, leaving scorched Earth with every step. With everything burning around us we have struggled to keep up former levels of quality care and professional courtesy. We have scrambled tirelessly to train our replacements, provide quality releases and support our user base. We have given up our personal time trying to keep up this happy facade. And we obviously failed.

JGregoire once said that I/T people don't rally around a company, they rally around their applications. Over the next few decades I looked for the truth in that statement and often failed to see it. Instead I saw that, yes, we would rally around our applications, but we would have gone to war for Pepsi...all the while Pepsi has been trying to k--l off it's most ardent soldiers.

I am so sorry for what I/T has become. We tried. We really, really did.

The Pepsico Way just highlighted what we all know. IT underfunded and no strategy to get to green, HR because of PDR process (though i was in the new pilot and it was better but still relies in your manager not being a weapon. and cultural issues like alignment and funding and buy in and strategy.

How many more surveys do we need to fill out until someone listens and actually does stuff. All of those posts ere NOTHING new. It was stuff any half switched on person would know.

Outsourcing will burn the business, sadly it will be too late when they realize but its ok because pepsico can just blame them and expect results until the next contract renewal and drive price down. until Pepsico realize nowdays every company is an IT company it will flounder chasing unsustainable cost cuts for shareholders.

For people on here complaining about it, Spend your work day looking for new roles externally and hand in that notice once you have a new role. I've seen 25 year employees let go and no concern of sustain or business continuity. tThey don't care why should you? Own your career.

IT is definitely the #1 issue.

There are a lot of topics on how the PDR process is worthless. It seems that is the #2 issue.

I wonder if any actions will be taken off of all this feedback

The IT comments are a reflection on the failed leadership that has been in place for the last few years.

When you hire a hatchet, money isn’t the only thing that gets cut, the ability to service the business also suffers.

Most don’t cut off the nose to spite the face.

First they cut IT budget year over year, and then deeper mid-year cuts in the name of "productivity" - leaving people to figure out how to support systems with expired maintenance, obsolete hardware with no permitted outages, etc. When that wasn't enough, they started cutting the most tenured people - sometimes people who possessed key legacy knowledge or were solely supporting key, but unknown systems.

How could IT possibly be successful in that environment?

As for those that remain - I think it's only partly out of a sense of trying to do right by others left in the boat with them. For most, its not wanting to part with what could be a lucrative package. For some, the local job market may not be as strong as in Plano. Whatever the reason, they don't deserve disrespect.

@ZXeYdVe-ywa - no one is asking for sympathy! Its RESPECT that most are asking for from a place that folks have given a lot for in 20+ years.

I am sorry but there is no more sympathy left for those in IT who remain. The abuse has been constant for some time now. At first, I was an advocate of cursing the company for their actions. But everybody is well aware of the demons that stroll through the company now. There is simply no more pity for those who choose to stay and take the constant abuse and then claim “oh woe is me”. You have a choice, either stay and feed the insanity or walk and leave the injustice behind. Time to put your big boy/girl pants on and stop being hypocrites! Choose a side and stop whining !

Yes, I am in IT and I agree with everything that has been said. We cant bleed blood from a stone and those of us that are still remaining have a tainted reputation from the garbage replacements. But hey, they are saving money! Money talks and the b---s--- walks.

All of this at the expense of those that are still here like myself.

There are just no more words so I wave the white flag and bide my time until I can get another job

I agree with what you said. I always wondered what army could possibly expect to win any war, when they let go of their best and most loyal soldiers? When your a-- is against the wall, if you don't have people ready to make sacrifices, and fight fight, then you lose. It almost appears to me that some people in the organization want to loose. I always wondered why? Looked at what happened at Boeing. they might not make it. I've seen this repeated at other companies. There is nothing more precious than a good hard working employee.
