I just read several dozen suggestions on The PepsiCo Way and it was brutal! I/T is being beat to a pulp. For those of us still standing in I/T, it was never meant to be like this. Most of us enjoyed our roles and chasing down issues. We thrilled at working with users and learning the business. It truly was a passion, not just a job.
In the past few years we have cried, cursed and mourned as new leadership came in, leaving scorched Earth with every step. With everything burning around us we have struggled to keep up former levels of quality care and professional courtesy. We have scrambled tirelessly to train our replacements, provide quality releases and support our user base. We have given up our personal time trying to keep up this happy facade. And we obviously failed.
JGregoire once said that I/T people don't rally around a company, they rally around their applications. Over the next few decades I looked for the truth in that statement and often failed to see it. Instead I saw that, yes, we would rally around our applications, but we would have gone to war for Pepsi...all the while Pepsi has been trying to k--l off it's most ardent soldiers.
I am so sorry for what I/T has become. We tried. We really, really did.
