AT&T doesn't offer any of us a shiny future anymore. Those who want to get ahead and actually grow in their career should look to do so elsewhere. Heck, people should probably leave the entire industry, considering how badly things have been developing all around lately.
Time to put your thinking cap on and learn a new skill or two. Your future self will thank you.
From what I heard about Bell South, we were going to buy out their part of Cingular. They tossed in the rest of the company due to realizing they didn’t have the size and scope to compete in the future. They did a good job of managing their resources and managing their financials. Took a lot of old systems and kept them functional with pretty slick updating. Of course they did infect the rest of the company with MSOC.
I agree. Just a reminder , this company we work for is not the real At&t. It’s SBC, which has always had lousy management. Historically , they’ve always hidden their gross incompetence by gobbling up other companies, which hides the fact that SBC has always been poorly run. Take bellsouth. It was an excellent rboc. Well managed and very profitable. At&t bought it and subsequently has run the southeast region into the ground. SBC management doesn’t care. It’s all about their executives getting their bonuses and golden parachutes. They gobble up good companies and milk them dry until there’s nothing left and move on to the next one. That’s where the real money is made. I’m mergers and acquisitions. Every time they do one , they give themselves and enormous payout.
Very good advice. After 3+ years of significant and repeated layoffs with no end in sight in a growing economy, there isn't much future short term . Lack of leadership at the top has been in place 10 years and will continue. There are companies who treat their employees with respect and T is NOT one of them. 2Q earnings will be bad and more layoffs will follow like clockwork
