Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Prem Techs Get Ready To Roll

We will see when they release exactly what D4 and the company agreed upon. If Prem Techs got scr#wed over yet again, EVERY Prem Tech needs to vote NO. And then, if it still passes (which magically it always does!) Prem Techs in Right To Work states need to withdraw from this union!

If the CWA wants to take Prem Tech dues and only use them to represent core, then we're done with this union.

If there was actual leadership working for the welfare of 'represented' members, D4 and D3 would be coordinating together at this point. The union finally has a little leverage now, and D4 throws it out for a quick agreement so they can go home early!

Prem Techs only see there side of the world, there is a much bigger side of AT&T that they will never know about, most core employees shake there heads @ Prem Techs.

Prem techs DO NOT out number core, Remember core consists of construction, engineering, repair, deg, specials, mechanics (the few that are left) Mlac, Rcmac, etc...

@1ku, all outside positions at this company are listed as term positions now. And with the way Randall is laying his workers off, it doesn't look like anyone should consider their position permanent.

But that doesn't change the fact that if you are paying union dues the union should at least make an attempt to represent you and not just work for its good 'ole boys.

Positions were advertised and offered from day 1 as RLT. Regular Limited Term. Was to be 2 years only until core ate p--p in a contract to get them included as Apendix F. Many said thank you back then. A few years later and now they tell us off. When I started it was at $6.85 an hour in the late 90’s. I was around almost 10 years before I cracked $20 an hour. So don’t point fingers at me. You young millennials think everybody owes you something. I don’t want to see anyone out of a job but you knew what it was the day you signed your name.

We have had the Prem Tech position for 12 years now. That is a really long time to be considered 'term' employees, paying union dues, but not receiving full union representation or a place in the core contract.

@PHV: Let me, as a Prem Tech explain what they meant by 'term position' - It was basically a legally convenient way for the company to get rid of under performing techs, and keep the better ones, a trial period. We were hired for a one and one half year 'term'. Right before that period ended, a lot of our slower techs were let go. The rest of us continued our employment.

The company does the same thing with other outside positions also as a convenient way to get rid of techs they don't want to keep.

@wkz...incorrect...T had folks I&M'ing fillin theblank services at the station way before PT/WT ever existed. For the SE, it was Service Tech. A lot of those guys were surplulsed out of their job title and their work given to lower wage PT/WT, which the union should have never gone along with, but they did so here we are. My question is, did T or the union make it known to applicants that they would be a "hired gun" just for one project over several years and then let go? Shame on both of them if they didn't.

And can we at least see what’s in the tentative agreement before the worst is assumed?? And it was well over a year the bargaining team was working on this and I wouldn’t call that a “hurry home”.

Without premtechs installing the service AT&T would liderally be dead in the water and have no customers!!!

It was my understanding also, that the prem tech position was to be a temporary position; hence why it was not included in the core contract.

OP:. Im not a PT/WT or in I&M, but it was my understanding that the job titles were a term position, as in once the Project 2020 was done the jobs were no longer needed. Am I correct? If not, did neither the company nor the union make those job takers aware of that when they accepted the position? (Not arguing or belittling anyone just wondering)
