Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

D4 members, reject this agreement!

So D4 CWA leadership reached a tentative deal with At&t less than 2 months before D3 contract expiration. They did the same in 2015. So much for unity, power in numbers , blah blah blah. As predicted, At&t is trying to avoid having D4 and D3 out of contract same time. D4 leadership just gave up any increased leverage they could have had if waited for D3.

D4 members , be smart and reject this agreement. You will get a better agreement out of att once D3 is out of contract. Don’t let D4 CWA leadership and At&t divide and conquer all members. Wait for and unite with D3 !!! You deserve a better agreement than whatever c-ap D4 just agreed to !

Anybody remember how Larry Cohen screwed us all on the one contract? You don't? Get up to speed. He sold us out. He will burn in hell, in my opinion

Vote on on this D4 contract. Voting yes and it will be giving in to AT&T and letting union leaders off the hook. Demand more!

Opt out period is probably going to be around the first two weeks of August for D3. Their contract is up around 8/3.

When is the opt out period for district 3. I want to send a message to CWA. They ignore all my emails as if I don’t exist anyway so I think I should stop sending dues.

@cqr....mass Exodus will solve that problem...everybody out during the opt out period and if we get a unified contract or unified contract date we get back in. We the people hold the power of the unions with our pocketbooks. T may not be scared of the union, but the union d@ng sure better be scared of us.

Forgive my ignorance about union politics but is there a way for us members to push this to cwa leadership so they don’t have a choice? Like a petition with signatures for example.

CWA leadership is non existent. Pretty clear most members of all districts prefer to unite the districts or at least get the contract expiration dates within the same year of each other. Leadership ignores its members wishes at its own peril. Any wonder membership (and morale) is down across the board ?

@vus , more the reason to strive for one contract , one Union , one voice. It can all be done in one contract. Regarding pay , they can still differentiate pay for different cost of living regions in a single contract. They do it now in the southeast D3 contract. A systems technician who works in fort pierce gets paid a little less than than a systems tech who works in west palm beach but that’s because the workload in fort pierce is lower and slower and the cost of living there is much lower. It balances out. We can do something similar in unified contact coast to coast. My point is the different work and the different economies from coast to coast does not mean we have to have different contracts. We still all work for the same company and we have more leverage for better pay and benefits if we act as one Union from sea to sea. I’m afraid CWA leadership must be in cahoots with At&t because they seem to have zero interest in addressing members wishes on this front. As usual , politics in play. At&t scratches CWA leadership’s backs and CWA leadership scratches At&t ‘s and members get left holding the bag.

Definitely vote it down. Since I’ve been in the SE they’ve always voted down the first agreement. They really need to bargain together instead of having Southwestern Bell, BellSouth, Ameritech, Pac Bell, Legacy AT&T, etc. bargain as individual units.

@vus....u r correct they are different contracts with different details that's why a unified contract date is essential. So regardless how many contracts there area and what the bargaining issues are from coast to coast either they get resolved or we walk out as 1 union! Cwa IBEW d3 d4 it doesnt matter, 1 union 1 date 1 voice! We should all be on the same page on this one!

Its an 80/20 problem.. 80 % cwa leadership making dumb A@@ decision that only cater to themselves and saving their positions and pensions and 20% US members for continuously voting in these uneducated, ill prepared leaders. The solution is simple, don't re elect them and don’t ratify the contract. The big question is will we members have will and guts to do either...

You think you don't have a voice now?that Your leaders don't listen now? That wouldn't get better if we were a bigger entity,it would be so much worse.

@hov, exactly right. One At&t should equal one district , one contract. CWA leadership refuses to address this issue. It seems they want to maintain these separate districts, but why? Is it simply a matter of leadership protecting their own positions ? They won’t even discuss it with members.

It doesn't matter if the experation dates are the same, each district negotiates a different contract with different details. Under sbc, all the contracts expired the same year, none of them were settled at the same time. The contracts each district settle on are a lot more different than you might realize. Pay scales are different, titles are different, surplus rules are different.

Union members should reject the agreement, the worst mistake CWA has made is to allow the company to have different expiration dates for each district. If we all had the same date the leverage would be enormous. Our problem is within CWA Leadership, they want to get their own and F everyone else. Of this agreement passes SHAME on CWA for F..ing over the members once again..

Hopefully the SIPP has been at least doubled......T has stated workforce reductions are on going. Any thing less then a doubling of the payment is unacceptable

@yxb. Don’t know if you were being sarcastic but I actually think that’s doable. If district 4 has already been able to work over a year without a contract , then district 3 and 4 should be able to continue to do that until district 6 is out of contract. CWA leadership should be pushing us towards one contract but instead they are in bed with At&t maintaining the status quo. Pathetic.

Growing a pair won't change reality, at&t is not interested in keeping customers, at&t is not interested in being a utility company.

gfb sounds ike a coward. Grow a pair. He should have saved enough to be able to go on strike for at least 4 months. Everyone should have 6 months income saved as a general rule anyway. If you don’t, you’re part of the problem.

@gfb, you think it’s coincidence that att suddenly becomes amicable and calls D4 leadership back to Chicago to offer a better deal one month before D3 expiration ? !

Of course a 4 day walkout didn’t scare att. But a combined D3 and D4 would be damaging. All of Midwest and and southeast striking ? That would get national headlines and the attention of congress and state governments. You better believe they are scared of that. You said it yourself. It’s all about leverage. Waiting for D3 gives D4 more leverage. Period.

At&t is not scared one bit about a work stoppage, we had our four day ulp walkout last year and they didn't even blink. In fact, no overtime was aloud to catch up the load until August. We were 5 weeks out, customers were cancelling their service before we showed up. It got to the point where I was checking to see if the customer still had service before I went to the prem. The bargaining committee knows it, the officers know it, the rank and file know it. We have no leverage left. We strike, they will lock us out and bring in the contractors, we would never be back.

It doesn’t matter what the details are. The agreement is subpar to the concessions At&t will make in about 5 weeks when district 3 is out of contract. Why do you think at&t obviously just made more concessions? District 3 and 4 uniting would be bad for very att and they know it. It’s now up to D4 members to reject this agreement if they want a better one in 5 weeks.

Prem techs need to show up for this vote. I’m curious to see the details on this. Willing to bet some work groups are taken care of and some were used as bargaining chips. .....
