These comments go along with why I've ever recommended one person for management in 25 years.

When you have something nobody wants, bundle the price in with things they do want and vaguely mention it in the form of a half truth as to provide you with a self righteous stance of transparent disclosure when they come and ask “wtf this charge is for.”

Like most, I’ve had a lot of managers. Usually a new one every year or so. I’ve had some I completely butted heads with, he was a micromanager. Ive tried to learn something from each of them where I could. Best advice I ever got was simple, “negative feedback is gold.” Using that led to one of the best personal development given was actually a one on one with someone that she and I did not get a long at all. She was a higher manager for another team and gave me the harshest feedback I’ve ever gotten. At the end, I thanked her for the honest feedback and asked if we could do more from time to time. Walked out of there with new respect for one another and she became a strong advocate for me.

Stupid question. I had 4 managers in 2 years. None where leaders. No courtesy, no respect, no communication.

When I hired on, wasn’t introduced to anyone. Never given advice. Always told after the fact, like I’ve should of known.

Morale s---s in our yard. Most b--ch every day about the road blocks faced each day. I’ve been logging all my road blocks this month, half my jobs have had some kind of issue that results in a jep or delay in closing the job to make efficiency. Beats you up, demoralizing.

None of my managers have been any kind of leader, just get the job done or why or ok. Never, a how are you today or talk to you like a person.

There was one that was a great guy, but you could tell when his managers pressured him,

I've had a lot of managers in my time at AT&T, very few for more than 8 or 10 months at a time, some for only a couple of weeks. Of all the managers I have had however, I don't think I would call a single one a role model or mentor.

Butt kissing slave driving yes men (and women) sociopaths definitely, but not a single role model in the bunch. AT&T does not look for people with character to put into management positions, they look for weak minds with an authoritarian outlook that they can mold into this companie's sick vision of what a leader should be.

“Get over it” and “Deal with it” and most importantly, “If you don’t like it, get another job”

Oh wait, that was my father, not an AT&T manager.

"Don't feel like you need to have any loyalty to AT&T, because they sure don't have any loyalty toward you. "

"This place is crazy."

Both said to me by different managers, 12 years apart. Blew me away...

At AT&T? Is this a trick question? Manager? Mentor? Very few managers, no mentors I would follow and to add , no leadership! My comment has nothing to do with the layoffs. It is just my observation and experience.

Don't become a Manager at AT&T

@mpg....u can follow supervisors..right out the door. We seem to get a new one about every 8 or 9 months. Never leave a job or take a job based on the 1st line because there is an extremely high chance that u will be there a lot longer than him. A person with integrity and a good work ethic can excel at any job out here regardless of who the leader is. Knocking on 30, all of the good in the trenches for u managers are gone. Best case scenario nowadays is having one that will stay out of the way. Never learned anything job related, life impacting, or inspiring from any of them.

So you’re saying don’t work for AT&T, because there are no leaders to work for there.

Follow people you want to work for, not jobs. When you work for leaders that inspire you, you will work to figure out how to do whatever job needs to be done

My manager always says to cheat on your time as much as possible so He can get a bigger bonus. And if I don’t, he will send out the safety guy to my job repeatedly and use other methods to try and write me up until I comply.

This may sound like I’m joking, but this is standard for every manager I’ve had in the Southeast and it’s probably the same throughout this company. It’s impacted my life by making me hate this company more than anything else in the world.
