If you have been surplused or are on the bump list, you can actually go to job interviews on company time. Managers may not tell you that, but it’s standard protocol during surpluses.
First I heard of it, but good to know if it's true. I know my manager wouldn't tell me anything that might benefit me in any way...
If I get a surplus notice my primary job becomes finding a job internally or externally. I will do the minimum to keep them from having any cause, but I have about as much loyalty as I am given.
I’ve been surplused 4 times including and office closure, and these activities have been allowed for both inside and outside jobs. I’ve had interviews both internally and externally and have have even gone to job fairs on company time during a surplus as a bargained employee. I have no idea what it’s like for management, but this has always been allowed for craft employees in the organizations I’ve worked for. But if you do go on these interviews, make sure you aren’t taking a 3 hour lunch at Chili’s when you are supposed to be looking for a job.
Once i was notified, I worked from home evwryday, checking emails in the morning and doing a bogus career path search. Then I logged off for the rest of the day. You said you didn't need me by giving me the layoff notice....so I didn't need you either. When I was asked to do some training for my friends overseas, I said "no"...you told me my job was eliminated....
Internal Interviews are always on company time, also there is work on the national transfer plan. I am sure core will look good in your local retail store.
Answer depends if you are management or not. If manager, yes, cuz there are no jobs on career path. Some managers try to guilt you to keep working...but once i got the notice, game over for me.
In the west we were told to spend our remaining time to look for a new job. Several managers stopped reporting to work altogether
