Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No info

IBEW 21 visited the garage today ....with ZERO information!!! No numbers on garages that will be affected..nothing on the ..headcount at each garage that may be surplus....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! BLANK STARES....AWKWARD SILENCE. Can’t wait for the cuts for the next quarter!! Looks like the wreckless leak of the email about the surplus’s was spot ON AND the only way we were going to get ANY information, because the UNION knows NOTHING!!!! SMH!!!!

There’s actually a lot of work but it’s being hidden by the ticketing system in the NRC.

Walk through a CO and see how many red lights there are. The company has filtered out a lot of DS1 and DS3 carriers so NRC techs aren’t even seeing them on their work lists.

The company has taken the position there is no trouble unless a customer reports it. The problem is there are a lot of failed inter-office facilities filtered in their one size fits all filter.

To add to the problem, the NRC personnel are running at barebones levels and can’t process all their tickets (yes there are also a lot of dead weight). If they don’t see the tickets and dispatch, we don’t get the work in the field.

I guess the OP was not paying attention when the last surplus in IBEW21 happened because it was the exact same thing maybe it was not important enough to pay attention because you weren’t the one declared surplus at the time.

Here's an article on fiber work. It's a bit of an advertisement, but it shows where things are going.

https://www.fiercetelecom.com/sponsored/fieldshield-d-rop-combining-all-best-features-fiber-drops

A single drop cut can take as many as 4 truck rolls to restore service. ... Alternatively, using a FieldShield D-ROP drop cable allows for replacement to be done with as little as 1 single truck roll.

Spoke with a Union official a couple of years ago and at that time he mentioned about how the business was changing because he was spending more of his time defending guys not meeting metrics because of work not being available. Being his usual self he went off on a tirade about how the company was responsible for providing work. But in a way he was acknowledging the workload problems. Shortly after that I heard about the NJA problem. We all know the usual culprits, customer losses, wireless, fiber, etc. However a few months back I spoke with a field Mgr and he mentioned something I had never thought about. C&E was no longer providing as many trouble tickets because their copper work had gone down so drastically in his area. Sure that more than one person on this forum has cussed splicers more than once because of this issue. Never thought I would hear a field Mgr almost wishing to have that problem. That was interesting.

Maybe I'm missing something, but AT&T, not IBEW informs the employee of a surplus and SIPP availability. That occurred on the 14th. The union might have tried to negotiate something, but that wouldn't delay the notification from the company to the employee.

If for some reason, that notification was delayed between company and employee, then the clock, the deadlines, including SIPP deadlines and off-payroll dates would be delayed.

The delay from publishing the information on the IBEW21 may upset those who look to this kind of stuff as entertainment, but has absolutely no effect on the employees in this surplus universe.

The union is busy working out crooked deals. The only transparency the union provides is the due deductions from your check each month. They don’t work for the membership, they work to protect themselves

Careful about your tone and words, the big union men get offended easily! Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Blah blah blah.

They’re “negotiating.” It’s a “rapidly changing situation.” Sgt.Schultz, “I know nothing.”

@fqm ....doing something is one thing...having viable information on numbers for those at risk is another! We ALL know they do nothing! But to critique a leaked email as “wreckless”....when in actuality it’s been the most accurate and informed the membership has been throughout the ....and yes they admitted it today “the SURPLUS”...AGAIN SMH!

Do you honestly think those running the union would jeopardize their pension/retirement benefits to save any of us? Its all one big hustle. If you don’t believe me, go over to your local office file a complaint on something legitimate against the company and 9/10 times you will get the run around or the infamous “ we will work on it” and nothing ever gets done. Just look at your board members, when was the last time you saw them do anything remotely positive to improve the working conditions?
