Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It’s not the end for Southeast

The company is at the end of paying for in house construction. Splicers May fair well, but lineman are really in for a ride the next couple years as the master contractor in the area your at will be doing most tasks. You will also see Prem/Wire techs able to work in cable. I hate to see this, but the blue dozer is coming for wage scale 31. The world of FTs and PTs.

The union down here has sat on their hands too long. Last contract giving up any decent raise, giving up vacation time, all to get us the ability to wear shorts (that we can't even wear most of the time anyway because "safety"). Now the next contract is coming up and what's their position? The company's already laid off thousands and obviously wants to keep it going. Is a strike really gonna scare them?

@1dyi Prems will likely be merged with the I&R department, but without their contract and pay. Both positions will end up doing everything from the CO to inside the house. Ultimately the company would like to see the older employees with higher union compensation leave the company over time and be replaced by cheaper labor. And ultimately the union will be powerless to do anything about it.

I agree my friend. If you are a wage scale 31 employee, take all the tests you can to jump ship over to a wage scale 32 no matter what it is. OPTs and STs are on the way out the door.

Contractors are placing innerduct, placing cable and probably a bunch of other things we don’t know about. Blue Streak is stealing work from us left and right. The writing is on the wall.

All along the company has determined that Prem Techs are the 'technician of the future'. Meaning that going forward, technicians will be abused, micromanaged to death, and paid nowhere near their value to the company.

Meanwhile, back at the union hall, the band plays on. While the union was busy not bothering to improve conditions and compensation for their red headed step children Prem Techs, they didn't bother to notice that the company's ultimate goal was to get rid of well paid core contract field techs and replace them with under paid, over worked Prem Techs and contractors. WTG Union!
