Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Next round of layoffs? Estimate dates?

Since there is only one month until the last round of VSPers leave the company, do you guys think they'll immediately commence a round of layoff right after? SOMEBODY here has to be privy to the timeline.

I ask because I'm done here...I've accepted an offer with another company (and scored myself a 71% pay raise with essentially the same benefits). I start in July so I'm trying to get on a RIF list as I'd like VZ to pay me to leave...a little extra "going away" money.

For all of you VSPers leaving, it's going to be the best decision you've ever made. The job market is incredible out there if you have the skills. I nailed two job offers after only looking for 1.5 weeks. I should have job hopped years ago instead of getting simple ~4% raises every year.

I'm off payroll Jun. I have decided to take the summer off to spend with my child, and finish my Bachelors degree in HRM and Business (done end of October). I haven't had one regret, other than having my tuition benefit yanked in December.

I'm both nervous and relieved that the time is quickly approaching. This company is all I've truly known in my adult life (started when I was 18, currently 42). Good luck to all!

Does anyone have any idea about what is actually going on or who is running the company? Lots of meetings. Lots of long faces. Lots of pom-poming. No leadership. Less direction. Hans needs to get his people to lead, follow or get out of the way. He clearly knows where he thinks that he is going. I don't know about all the people around him though.

Good luck to you. I'm right behind you. BTW - how do you "get on a RIF list?" I was also a VSP - denied. Let me know how you pull that off.

I'm assuming you just slack off and do nothing...similar to the managers above you.

71%? 1.5 weeks?

A non-troll writes ether 70% or "about 70%".

A non-troll write "less than two weeks".

A troll attempts to add legitimacy by including specifics most would not bother with (or else you're real anal-retentive about things). I'm no FBI Profiler, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

I cannot believe trolling pays 71% more.

1.5 weeks.

chuckle

I'll estimate, since you asked. 2020. But, then again, that's based on nothing, like much of the speculation on this site. That's why it's described as a rumor site.

OP, you have a job that's giving you not a 70%, but a 71% raise, with the same bennies, and it's a job that's willing to wait until July for you, until the last VSP-ers are gone and a possible RIF offer is made afterwards?

And you want more?

Accrued vacation means you’ve earned it. Verizon pays you for accrued vacation, just not for vacation that hasn’t been accrued yet.

Take any accrued vacation before you leave. Verizon does not pay you for unused accrued vacation if you leave on your own terms.

I don't think there will any large scale RIFs in June, or for the rest of the year for that matter. Just small targeted ones. You can always make your wishes known to your supervisor, but you may have to be satisfied with just your accrued vacation pay, if you have any.
