The authorized retailers ie Target, Walmart, etc. have better promotions. When you purchase a select phone you get a gift card to that retailer valued at $100 to $250 (sometimes more) depending on the phone. AT&T retail stores don’t offer anything but heartache. No wonder traffic in corporate owned retail has been dying. Consumers 1, Randall 0.

That’s the plan. The average sales representative makes over 50,000/year and carry the baggage that comes along with the CWA union. The idea is to direct customers to other avenues (IHX, online, 3rd party retail, national retail such as Costco Walmart and so on). At&t is now doing same day home delivery and setup (non-union of course). Just this past week retail managers were sent to 3rd party locations to drive sales and it was a success. This time next year COR retail as it currently is will be no more. There will be COR locations in strategic locations but the majority will be gone. Wouldn’t be surprised if you see current IHX employees occupying retail stores once their Ford Fusion leases run out.
The technology itself is eating jobs. We have customers that are using our equipment, or the wireless and broadband they purchase from us to bypass other parts of our business by purchasing from Amazon for instance. Listened to the RS Goldman Sachs conference. Not that he has proven to be much of a seer but he said that in 3-5 years 5G could have the capability to replace even more of the wired network. They are seeing business customers coming to them, in the few deployed markets, looking at going completely wireless.
Anyone who works in retail and didn’t think one day their job was going away was in denial. It’s not just ATT it’s the retail industry changing- maybe they thought CWA was going to protect their jobs, uh , CWA does what the company says.
Basically the Wal-Marts are a form of offshoring. And even they are seeing that business go down. Haven’t been in a Wal-Mart in awhile that keeps the displays full like they used to.
