I don’t mean to sound pessimistic but the whole recent situation at the company looks to me more like crumbling and falling apart, rather than any sort of a meaningful and planned restructure. I don’t see any meaningful pattern in which people are being let go and all points to the layoffs being a sign of panic and an ill urge of the leadership to save their own skin on the expense of the employees. T used to be a great company, but at this point I don’t see it as a company that has a successful future.

Falling apart in slow motion... the john's pretending to be innovators on the streaming & data services and rs cheering them on...
Sadly, neither has what it takes to make T the leaders on their new billion-dollar adventures...
Expect layoffs throughout 2019 and beyond, all work that does not require the physicial presence in the US is or will be moved to an offshore facility.
Many people(craft and mgrs) will be gone the next few years. RS will not be one of them. It is like waiting for Trump to resign----Ain't gonna happen. Randy will still be in charge when most of us are long gone.
@HKG...still turning up new 56 & 64kb DDS ckts too, mainly to power companies & railroads in SE...A service manager told me they were a cash cow, not sure how since we have long duration repair tickets on them since we have no field test equipment, automated testing rarely works, test heads in CO's lockup, lots of testers have NFC, etc....also turning up BRI's every now and then too..#racingto2020

Yes AT&T is, and will continue.
2020 is more like 2030. Try telling a large city that uses these circuits to connect to one of the 51 fire stations and multiple Police stations that they need to completely replace their phone systems to connect to AT&T. Is not happening anytime soon.
You have to ask yourself: How often do you socialize with your management. If you get laid off can other yes-men fill your roll? Sure there'll be a transition period but can the brown nosing be completed by someone else?

Wireless streaming with advertising. That is the company.
If your hands are not on equipment or if you are not a manager of said employee, the cuts are coming.
Technology to has pushed many out.
I hope all let go land on their feet or have enough time where work is an option.
Add now add the class action, not lookin too good for AT&T. Chairman needs to step down now if there is any hope for this company to survive. Not sure it’s not already too late. Titanic has been sinking slowly.

The Company will survive but not under the leadership of Randall; if that doesn’t change the Company could be in jeopardy.

The company knows who's "the best and brightest" with a proven track record. I've seen them give heads up to those employees so they can be "saved".
Wireless looks healthy. Warner Media looks healthy. Landline telephone is doing what was expected when the "2020" thing was announced. The fiasco seems to be confined to DirectTV and the stock price already reflects that. The job cuts seem measured, and utilizes a lot of volunteers through buyouts. Randall says that AT&T will reduce debt by $30B in 2019.
The large numbers of employees that AT&T has looks to me like inefficiency. That's the red flag I see.
