Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

employees are now subsidizing the debt

I guess the "executives" found a new way to spend away the company. The employee bonus calculation came out today and 20% of everyone's bonus is debt ratio. Guess this gives them 20% more $ to make bad money losing acquisitions.

To our resident 2nd line perusing the AT&T layoffs board:

( "I love the craft folks always saying how they get over with OT and double time, then put down the 2nd level as a complete mo--n..")

I'm going to call BS on this.

Any second line I've ever met has made it known to the "underlings" that overtime pay is anathema to the Company's budget. Yet we have some cable splicers pulling down 175k a year.

I think the point that was trying to made is that there are many in management that try to use forced overtime as a way to punish or exert control. Funny thing is, the company will hold repair tickets back for days and even weeks for our customers. Now you want to tell us that it is mandatory that "this" ticket must be closed today?? Ok, it will get done. Now pay me, now pay me again because it is Thursday and I'm already at 49 hours for the week.

We don't even get that excited over Executive Escalation tickets, don't let me see an email about some AVP/VP or above having trouble with their AT&T services. They can call 1-800-ATT-2020. That will get them in the que.

I never expect a Bonus, but I am happy when I get one.

Seems too many people live like it is part of their guaranteed pay.

They’re fools who don’t understand a bonus is just that: a bonus!

The company can cut bonuses or even eliminate them.

I was under the impression this blog was supposed to concern layoffs, not employed mo--ns complaining that their bonus wasn't big enough.

Seriously? LOL.

If you’re stupid enough to post from a work system or COU device sure.

Personal device using VPN or TOR? No.

AT&T has no legal clout to demand personally identifiable information from a private party website.

One more thing Mr Deuce. If you think for a second asset protection and AT&T can't figure out who posts this stuff if they wanted to you should rethink that. I'm retired, I can say what I want.

Think about that.

At the deuce here. If you think for a second the "board" even knows your name you have an inflated ego. Never met one that didn't...must be an adder. Are you short as well? Most are.

The board may decide the amount of allowable bonuses and it is filtered through and divided up from the many levels all the way down (yes down) to you. You boss divies up the amount he has between all the 2nd levels, when then you parlay up the amount they've given you for bonuses to the entry level managers (1st lines).

And as a tech, I'd bet I made more than you annually 50% of the years. I did work more hours, and didn't spend 100% of my time warm, dry, in meetings. I worked much harder than you do/did. I wear that as a badge of honor you wouldn't understand. Those BCD meetings at resorts were grueling I'm sure. But then physical work ain't cut out for everyone-as you know.

But I could go home when I wanted, did not have to answer my phone 24/7 365 or any of the other non stop BS you do. That's why I turned down every management job when I was approached about looking in to one. Still retired at 55. 3 years ago.

Be just as physical outside work ain't for everyone, neither is schmoozing, being a yes man or looking down on "lower" titles.

Seems you found your niche.

Congrats.

Wow, you big shot second level you. Did you read Art of the Deal during your salary negotiations? How can you calculate your hourly wage if you work overtime every week and are salary? If only everyone could be as smart as you.

I love the craft folks always saying how they get over with OT and double time, then put down the 2nd level as a complete mo--n..As a 2nd level myself I am salaried so no OT for me, but I enjoy my $64.42 and hour job, work 40-45 hours a week, and get 12-13% bonus pretty much each year. So as a stupid 2nd level I am quite happy with my pay. As far as bonus, its at the discretion of the board, I never count on it. When I hired on 20 years ago HR tried to lowball salary by adding in the bonus. I told them set the bonus off to the side and we'll negotiate a salary (got $25K more a year over first offer).

I've got raises, and my health care hasn't eaten it up. Health contributions vary by situation.

We have been subsidizing for years. ATT has made billions every year yet our health benefits continue to go up. Think about it -we haven't gotten a raise in 9 years. Any pay increase gets eaten up by increasing health contributions.

They pretty much can make up whatever bonus level that they want since they never really say what metric level that they want to achieve. "nope, you don't get your bonus because Randy only got a 9% raise and the mystery target was 10%. You underperformed."

"Our bonus is like a 100 dollars before taxes and union dues. If I want more money, I just work more OT"

Preach....

Our 2nd line likes to jack with us, telling us to "pick up one extra job" near end of tour. Cool, I'll take that 60 bucks an hour on OT, and act like I hate it, and soon I'll be on double time, and "act" miserable that I'm making 80 bucks an hour just to make him feel like he is having an impact.

I'll be retired long before that clown. Life is good. God Bless AT&T and the id--ts that "run" this place.

Oh, don't spill our secret.

Notice that the "dropoff" or slope of the payout is more severe (the last line of the PDF). Basically I'm reading that as, no more 83 and 84 percent if the company missess the target. It will fall more rapidly into low double digits.

To "compensate," they're raising the maximum payout to 150%. LOL, as though that's EVER happened.

It's just so freaking transparent.
