Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AIrTie- cramming

So the company’s newest money making scheme is up selling customers a piece of equipment that should already be standard.

A WiFi router has enough range to cover about the size of a 2000 square foot home. AT&T is now doing a heavy push to “extend “ the WiFi coverage.

So now AT&T is basically telling customers “we charged you for a service that doesn’t work unless you buy another piece of equipment.”

Forget the fact that they are testing the WiFi signal with the optional piece of equipment you have to buy. They have also manipulated the threshold for the testing in order to show it as failing unless the customer purchases the additional equipment.

For years AT&T sold WiFi without the AIrTie but now we can’t seem to make it work without them. This is a money making scam. No matter the size of the house they will tell a customer they need the additional equipment.

5ghz signal is heavily attenuated throughout the home by just about anything and everything that's in the transmission path. It's the trade off for higher throughput vs longer range that the 2.4ghz band provides.

Easy to see by looking at a signal meter from your radio. And, no, cranking up the transmission power on the Access Point won't do much to resolve your issue as you have to take into account the OTHER transmitters ( your phone, tablet, laptop, whatever ) power levels too. A great signal from your AP to your device means squat if the signal level from device to AP is terrible.

That said, if you want the fastest speeds available from your 5Ghz radios, you really need an unobstructed Access Point in every room where you plan on using 5ghz.

This is most likely the idea behind AirTie.

This wasn't the case with 2.4ghz systems as their longer wavelength isn't attenuated as much and can easily provide an acceptable signal anywhere in the home.

Turn off your 5gz in your Wi-Fi. I did that and everything started working much better again.

@YmNoakK-qpp I just got DTV Now a couple weeks ago. I am not impressed tbh. I had been using playstation Vue and honestly liked it better, but for $10 a month its an easy choice. DTV Now still has some issues. I use it through the app on samsung smart tvs. the picture quality degrades whenever you bring the guide up, and only goes back to HD 5 seconds or so after you close it, menus load slowly, and now they are about to take away a bunch of channels. I dont see what is taking at&t so long to fix this stuff.

OP’s ignorance proving once that he doesnt understand Wi-Fi at all. The 5Ghz (802.11ac) band signal coverage is what air ties are all about. Almost every new WiFi device now has these faster more efficient 802.11ac radios. The 2.4 band is overcrowded and not capable of sustaining the bandwidth people demand. There are many homes which need additional radios to improve that 5Ghz so a customer can experience better speeds and consistent service levels.

Hey you are already here on the internet why not head over to YouTube for a few minutes and try and learn something about what you get paid to do everyday. Plenty of training in AT&T on wi-fi if you take about 2 minutes to look for it as well.

@iwtp, no one is remoting in to reduce your power, I like conspiracy theories as much as the next person but this Is not something we do. There are legitimate reasons to lower power, as “MOAR POWAR!” Is not always better since radios interfere with each other causing more retransmissions which degrades the throughput of the link.

F---ing bitter trolls!!!! Stop trashing at&t products with stupid posts. Every customer have the free will to come and leave (most that leave come back) as customers. Don’t try to portray your feelings as the feelings of everybody!!!

So true , somehow my WiFi signal has gone to c-ap on my U-verse . Never had a problem for years . It wouldn’t surprise me that they remote into my power settings on my gateway just to upsale . What’s funny is I can see with full bars my neighbor’s Comcast across the street .

@-xve --- I never upsold a thing when I was there. That said, recommending DTV Now over DTV or Uverse is actually a good piece of advice. It works great.

I got DTV Now the day it launched. At the time I was on a single pair 45mbps at 900ft. Running 2 TV's w/DTV Now, a third on Netflix, two mining rigs, 3 laptops, 3 tablets, 3 smartphones, etc. Never had any major issues.

Now I'm on a 1gbps fiber circuit living the dream. DTV Now is the way to go. No CPE. No Tech. No Fuss.

Just like forcing the techs to try and upsell dtvnow. Fraud on the horizon...again!
