Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Don't believe the BS

The' reason been selling the line for some time now that the surpluses are a painful but necessary process in order to apply $ to the monsterous debt hole that these horses asses have dug for this company. Pa leese! As they say, the best lies are built around some level of truth. Is there a lot of debt? You bet. However, when Randy takes more $ out of the company to take a piss in his private en suite than I make in a week, there's something wrong. Bases on his 2018 earnings, it comes out to approximately $80k - per HOUR. Are you kidding me? Sure, his "salary" isn't that much, but everything together is. And the stock he is given isn't options with some maturity term, it's as good as cash on day 1. Stankey just got a 64% increase McAtee in legal was given a $5M bonus in 2018, giving him an effective increase of 104%. Yes, I'm sure he worked his a-- off, but I'm sure $1 or $2 mil would have made him pretty happy. How many positions could that $3 mil have provided for? And then they turn around and target the workers for surplus and grace them with less than 2% raises and reduced bonuses to "save $". It's total BS. The BOD and Executive suite in this company might have a lot of money (over 88 million a year for Randy, the Johns and McAtee), but they are completely morally bankrupt.

"Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better. I believe Donovan, Stankey, etc. could get another awesome - but high volume/high stress - job in the marketplace."

Yeah, I'm sure the market for CEOs that buy to grow and then destroy the value of what they purchased is huge. Boards must be lined up in droves to raise Randall's salary if only he would come and wreck their companies for them.

This kind of talk and similar tired tropes has to be from AT&T's social media PR team. If so that means they are here. Let them post their drivel so we can get good at seeing through it.

"There's a shareholder's meeting coming up, and Randall is answerable to the shareholders, and they'll make a decision on whether they think he's worth it."

What a naive view of how it works. Don't count on Randy getting the axe from others of his ilk until it is much worse and they can't avoid it. As George Carlin used to say it's a big club and you ain't in it. These guys on the board empathize with each other. They are more inclined to give slack to one of their brothers than to take their responsibility to protect the company seriously. Where were they when Randy took out the credit card and ran up 180B in debt?

To the post below......Nope...I think we would find them asking; Do you want another shot of cream in your mocha latte" just the like the rest of us after getting the boot at 50? My assumption is If they had not landed the gig at SBC years ago and joined the Good Old Boy Club network they too would be stuck in a white collar Management position somewhere...….Just like everybody else...

To the person who posted the below about CEO salaries...I never gave a damn about prior CEO salaries either....Employees judge the fairness of their CEO/Exec's compensation as it measures to their contribution. If employees do not feel the CEO is acting as a fiduciary steward regarding their personal compensation or other company perquisites, it weakens the trust of employees. If CEO's are being reckless with compensation increases at the expense or detriment of the employees who are feeling the threat of on-going layoffs and minimal salary increases....Employees concerns in this regard are directly proportional to the current state of the company.....A Good Leader/CEO should diffuse potentially negative by cutting their own compensation (not publicizing 64% increases in the midst of layoffs) or taking other tangible and intangible actions that demonstrate that they will participate in the pain!!!....However, that would be the actions of a "Good Leader"

"The CEO compensation envy thing is getting so tired folks. You should have aimed higher. Learn to be comfortable in your own skin. You can argue strategic vision all day long, but for the love of God, stop trying to reconcile your compensation compared to theirs. A pointless exercise in futility."

Take RS $30mil salary

Divide by 200K (the rough number of employees).

Divide that by 52 weeks in a year.

Divide that by 40 hours.

Enjoy your 7.2 cent an hour raise.

The only numbers that should matter to you are not what others make, but what the direct deposit says every other Friday.

Try to run them out of $$$.

I can't help being in awe of how the wealthy grifters who run this country have so many people buying this lie hook line and sinker. It's like the Stockholm syndrome: they sympathize with their kidnappers. And these poor delusional people react angrily when someone points out that they are being robbed. They tell people who point out the problem to them to go live in Venezuela or N. Korea for crying out loud. It's just sad to see people defend those that are robbing them blind. Stankey and his boss the 30 million dollar man thank you for your credulity.

@uls - it is no use trying to convince people who think we have a capitalist system. Just like the person who said that about toyota and then gets lambasted because he picked Japan as an example. Probably more toyota cars put together by Americans than any American car companies.

Hopefully people will wake up soon and change their thinking. The American economy is being destroyed by the likes of randy and stankey and these people don't even realize it they just bend over ans say give me another.

@gis

You're missing the whole point. When you're pulling down more $ in an hour than the average worker is making in 9 months, don't tell me that surplussing me is going to make one iota of difference in righting the financial position of the company. Of course it's a bit more financially beneficial to the company that the plug gets pulled at an age where you're months or weeks from making MR75, and subsequently you're too old to be considered in the marketplace. That, after decades of service, late nights, weekends, holidays and missed family events is just wrong.

And as far as the comments of the company can't afford to continue to carry dead wood anymore, the dead wood was gone a long time ago. It's at a point now where needed work can't be done on a reasonable schedule because there aren't enough people left to do the work. Those that are left are working their butts off trying to keep things going for two reasons - they're afraid they may be next and/or for some reason they're still dedicated to the job. Their reward, if they survive the year is a reduced bonus, reduced benefits and if they're lucky they might get a raise that leaves them with less takehome pay because inflation is growing at a higher rate than their paycheck. Oh, the do get one other thing - more work. Because even though they made it through the year, two of their peers didn't.

The people making the name selections now don't even have the first clue or concern of how critical a person's knowledge is or how the loss will impact the business. The don't even consult with the AM's anymore to try to make "smart" decisions.

Then you have the lying. Don't tell us that the selections aren't geo-loc driven, when clearly they are. That isn't playing 'close to the vest', it's a flat out lie. And that is just one of many lies told. The word of an ex-con is more credible than anything leadership tells us.

Sadly, it didn't use to be this way. Leadership was more honest, and the were more human. I never really used to know what the CEO made and didn't really care, until they started taking financial security and retirement dreams away from tens of thousands of dedicated people and lying to them about it.

It doesn't matter what business we're talking about, by definition, a business only needs a worker if that worker, after cost of the worker produces a profit to the business. And we have to expand the concept to groups, because a custodian might not be directly contributing to the bottom line, but the group is.

Now, if AT&T is keeping unneeded workers, that's make-work. That's like a Bernie guaranteed job, where I can move into the unibomber's old shack and count acorns in the forest. The government can do that, AT&T can't. To me, with the employee count as it is, AT&T looks inefficient.

There's a shareholder's meeting coming up, and Randall is answerable to the shareholders, and they'll make a decision on whether they think he's worth it.

@Yjio1av-gis great words, I bet you will be flamed and accused of being a troll or some kind of apologist for ATT. for the rest, that's how capitalism works. get over it. if you don't like it then move to a country that does not do that, like NK or VZ.

all you have to do is look at Toyota. They make some of the most reliable and best selling cars. The ceo's salary is capped from the lowest paid worker. The money the ceo could take goes back into the company and whala they have the most reliable and best selling cars.

It isn't rocket science. americans are driven by greed. they are taught at all the harvard bs business school that greed is good and take your own who cares what is left behind after you leave. All the american ceos think in small time frames (quaterly), which is a joke.
