Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is the Time Media offer to those 55 and older with minimum 10 years offered to all employees?

News reported a package 0f 4 weeks pay for each year up to 2 years pay. Is that to all TW employees? Seems like a lot of top management leaving and good old boys from telecom being brought in plus outsiders

I'm sure this offer was some part of the acquisition agreement. T would never be that generous with a buyout for the masses, even though it would have increased the number who would have left.

Offer is to all WM employees who meet criteria.

@kra -- "I am mid 50s in ATO, planning to leave in 4 years, if this was offered to me I would take it." 2 YEARS severance? I'll be turning 50 this year, also ATO and I would jump at this so quick and hard I'd probably hurt myself and have to go out on disability.

nice to know we have to find out all this through the media and not our own company.

good job way to run a company

Yes they would go further into debt, however that would only be temporary. Just think of the millions they would save not having to pay the annual salary of all the employees that took the offer. It would more than pay for itself just in 2 years.

They have no care in the world for the phone employees. The maximum offer for a severance package is less than a year and will not change. If AT&T made a 4 week per year of service offer to telephone employees they would go further into debt. There are a lot of phone employees that are eligible to retire. They'd hire India to do the job for $5 an hour. And that still won't take down their debt.

One article I read stated it was for executives, but all others seem to indicate it is for anyone 55 years old with 10+ years. Seems very similar to what VZN offered last year. I am mid 50s in ATO, planning to leave in 4 years, if this was offered to me I would take it.

Yes. Make this same buyout offer to your most dedicated employees, who have 35 and 45 years service!! They need to be able to make it financially once they leave and retire. I am sure the media would love to hear how unloyal you are to your faithful long time employees.

The company should offer the same buyout to their AT&T workers. Especially those with 30 years and up, who won’t leave until they get a decent offer. Only fair!!

The mobility people would love to have that offer! We used to get up to 1 year severance depending on years of service but then it was cut to max 6 months severance a couple of years before all of the layoffs started. Curious timing, isn't it?
