Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any word on additional Union layoffs in April or on CWA negotiations?

Seems like several contracts are up and we could have some strike leverage .... our leaders lack aggressiveness

"If only the general public had any clue how overpaid a great deal of our contract labor workforce is........I used to believe the 1:10 ratio was a good reference (1 talented employee who would be sucessful no matter union/non-union vs 10 who have little knowledge and zero work ethic), but I’m probably off by a long shot now. I work with people every day who still have little to zero knowledge about the technologies they work on every day after 20 years working on them."

If only the same general public knew that AT&T ceased nearly all formal training for non-management nearly two decades ago. ( We were still SBC the last time I was able to take a class ) If you want to know why so many folks don't know what they're doing, you don't really have to look very far. The new AT&T considers "training" an expense vs an investment.

You're effectively handed a brand new piece of equipment with absolutely zero training on what it is or what it's for and told to " figure it out ".

If "One AT&T" is a great idea, then it should be 1 Labor Contract as well. No leverage for the workers until that happens.

By this time next year, the CWA will no longer represent ATT employees in Midwest or Legacy. The other regions will follow in subsequent years. All prem techs and any other field technicians will be 1099'd, effectively working individual gigs as needed, through the user of an app that they're working on right now in conjunction with Uber. Expect net take home pay to be cut by 55-60% if you're in one of these jobs today.

The auto mechanic took credit for stopping the March 15 surplus announcement in Illinois. The auto mechanic also scolded those who shared the leak screen shot as being unhelpful to the process. The auto mechanic is up for re-election this spring. Nothing better than having an auto mechanic representing us telecom workers.

The union is just there to create a facade of control so you comply. You are not in control, you will take what you are given and back to work.

Sure.....Good Luck. Auto mechanic vs Labor lawyer is putting it delicately. More like Kindergartners vs the school principal.

Watch them all run away ...work independently and fail massively. How the Unions allowed ATT to stagger contract expirations speaks to the low level uneducated people that are running these Unions. ATT and it's dirty dozen of 12 MBA Labor Lawyers against a Auto Mechanic produces "We are lucky to have jobs" mentality
