Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

To be Surplused isn’t necessarily a bad thing

Along with points already made... ... what upper management says and what upper management does could be two different things... ... regarding the 2020 coverages... ... 35 plus short courses to prepare the employee for the upcoming changes to start in 2020... ... I know folks that completed all required courses only to be Surplus’d on Akan 28th with no jobs available in Career Path for them... ... yet other employees in their workgroup who hadn’t completed one course not chosen... ... AT&T has always been a “how well you’re liked” environment... ... if you are liked and supported by the 2nd lines in your district under the director... ... you’ll more than likely make the cut... ... if your support group has dwindled down and left the business in previous downsizing offers... you’ll eventually get tapped... ... the old get replaced... it’s just the way the game is played... ... keep the resume up to date... ... keep a list of names ... numbers and company names for future references... ... to be Surplused isn’t necessarily s bad thing... ... the bad thing might be staying under such stressful work conditions…

This was taken from @YhnytNp-xti . I agree with the OP and thought this post should have more visibility on the board.

@YhUBiFL-5vwo, that "progressive" C-ap might fly in the political sphere... but this is technology. And technology eats its own. It's a cycle of destruction, rebirth, repeat.

Nothing to do with being fake. Everything to do with the fact that the company DOESN'T NEED YOU GUYS ANYMORE! Fiber & 5G ate your job home slice. Not greedy corporate captains of industry.

SMH...

Discrimination against where you live is the same as color of your skin. Why work for company that discrimatres against at state. Thought At&T is a company of progriseve ideas. Let me first to tell you the are a fake as the next person. Weak as well.

Don't buy into the "training" c-ap they're dishing.

The technology is taking your job, not Randy and Stuckey. Y'all should do some reading on 5G-- and it's implications.

Don't feel bad Wire Techs... Those greedy b--tards, otherwise known as CORE, will be laid off just like you. I'd say by no later than 2022. AT&T will most likely keep some people in the CO's, but all fiber placement/construction, splicing, and 5G radio placement will be subbed out.

In the last 6 months I've seen more want ads on Indeed for cell tower climbers at subcontractor companies than I did in the last 5 years combined.

Starting pay: less than a Wire Tech!!! LMAO!!

BYE-BYE CORE! Mas-Tech gonna take your bloated paycheck.

The thing about a surplus is that you get a severance package. and if you retirement eligible, you get your pension and everything that goes along with that, In the SE if you have at least 30 years the severance package is 90 weeks pay, This is for craft employees not management.

"the bad thing might be staying under such stressful work conditions…"

it isn't the stress it is just a waste of a life and no way to work. it isn't a matter of keeping the best it is a matter of keeping who acts like an a-hole the best and who you know. that is why I left without a surplus. the whole surplus idea is sick and dysfunctional. no way to run a company.

i guess i was dumb not to live that way and not wait for a surplus. lol
