No layoff announced, they just plan on moving the 'copper internet installs' to Core, for the single dispatch purpose.
Wire techs can be surplussed at any time....they are not covered under the quarterly surplus notifications y’all are talking about. They can surplus’s us all tomorrow and there’s nothing that can be done about it
Guys, I quit September 2016. Why? The surplus was written all over the wall! DirecTV Now launched the following month in Q4 2016. Pair that with coming 5G deployment.... = NO JOB.
If most techs were true "techy" types and would've kept up with industry news, you'd have known by summer 2016 what was coming. Verizon had already published preliminary test results showing a car traveling at high speed on a test track, 2000 feet from the radio... Pulling like 3gbps!
Also, AT&T already had two sites (TX & NJ) where they deployed 5G radios for testing. When CX ordered HSIA, they'd get mailed a WiFi router--- w/ a SIM card in it.
Pair that with DTV Now and you have ZERO need for a wire tech. And here we are today.
I thought it would all go down by Q4 2019/Q1 2020. Guess Randall is in a rush!!

There is no source because it’s bad trolling. April 1st is too late to announce it to the union for the second quarter and too early for the 3rd quarter.
I make tickets when needed but not much of anything to refer when there’s no cable pair trouble. Fiber has made that possible. Just plug and go.
And referrals/helper tickets are being monitored for abuse now. Not hard to figure out who’s doing what.

can you give a little more info ? what are you talking about ?
It would surprise me to see splicers get hit hard with the massive fiber overlay that is needed for 5G deployment. Would seem that when the government mandate is finished they would need those resources to make that happen unless the debt pay down falls off the rails.

Not rocket science. Have yet to see the outside forces get hit and them not shift techs around to fill in the holes. Might even include some yard consolidation considering the hits that were taken by the Prem techs in some locations.
I wouldn't be surprised. I never expected to see prem techs being surplussed.
