Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No wonder people are dropping DTV like flies

There are at least two or three dozen channels for infomercials that are titled as if they are actual TV shows. On Nickelodeon right now a flashing box keeps popping up saying that AT&T will be dropping 22 Viacom channels by midnight. I guess we can look forward to those channels being filled by more infomercials for snakeoil back pain medicine and skin cream.

Stankey and Randall should be ashamed of themselves.

The commercials are so loud so your phone can monitor which ads you are seeing. Thats why the DTV app always runs in the background.

Dont believe me? Stankey literally said that we are the only company that can tell youre in the room watching ads on your DTV.

Why are the commercials so loud? I’m wearing out the volume button on my remote.

Make sure you CYA on returning your DirecTV equipment. Evidently there is a pattern (Google it) where the equipment is lost in Olive Branch, MO, and FedEx/UPS says they cannot locate your return kit. AT&T per T&C tries to stick you with a minimum $135 bill for non returned equipment. Do what you can to protect yourself when sending back the return kit with equipment. I am a retired employee from a recent surplus who had to discontinue DirecTV because I could not afford the retiree discount of $130 per month.

Relax.

Contract disputes happen all the time. Not long ago it was dish and Univision .

It will get settled after some negotiations. Viacom wants to be on Ts platforms and T needs to keep Viacom on, but suit you can get philo for 16 bucks a month and it comes with all of Viacom’s networks. So how much more could they possibly want from T

just be happy you actually get a decent picture when you are watching a channel. Lucky for me I had tree blockage and couldn't experience DTV. But did try DTVnow and when it didn't buffer, I applauded. Can't believe this over the top DTV will be anything better than a re-branded roku and the same bad buffering.

So viacom or not, it was unwatchable.

Don't worry shareholders. I'm padding the 1st quarter numbers by offering insane retention deals and giving free month of service, I thought it was a board room and call center secret but somehow cordcutternews picked up on it.

AT&T’s foray into entertainment has been culturally similar to that of its drunken swagger into home automation and security with Digital Life.

Move into a new industry and try to play bullyball with the competition. Established competition offering better service at cheaper prices. The customer push back is overt. DTV was bleeding when T bought it, all trends pointed to the continuation of that, but T bought it anyway. None of the company’s choices in the last two years are being applauded by anyone who isn’t getting money from T and behind closed doors, you’d have to go pretty high up the ladder of a-- kissery to find anyone who actually believes half the stuff T tries to sell. “Viacom’s channels don’t matter!” Yeah, because DTV is losing them, a narrative like all others from T that adjusts to match the end result, the hallmark of an inept captain or a rudderless ship. The advert model is corny as hell. T doesn’t understand youth purchasing patterns or habits which means brand equity is taking a long term irrevocable hit. A lot of younger people in affluent and tech savvy areas know T shovels the same cow pucky that Comcast does.

So T goes into these new industries swinging its Ma Bell dong as if its the major player because “heh same thing works in mobility,” yet it never stops to consider that the target audience in mobility is captive. They have very few choices. Thats not the case in home security and also not in entertainment. This is made evident by the way T responds to critics of its process by essentially throwing skat and saying “BUT WE HAVE GAME OF FRONES!!!!!!!!!!” Which will matter for what, 6 weeks longer and then be gone. They think the spin offs will work, they won’t, and they think youths want HBO with a feverish passion, they don’t.

There is no one at T, there is no point in the process where integrity and brutal (sometimes painful) honesty is utilized. Its simply not in the DNA. Its used cars and the masquerade that because T has piles of money its not used cars and its being done right. The final piece is ignoring the fact that a public utility as basic as phones provides endless money because of the oligarical environment in which that industry operates. The same isn’t the same for entertainment. Think it’s bad now? Wait until Disney+ and Apple step up and stomp a mudhole in T’s arse, it’s going to be brutal. The entertainment industry is changing and T responds by introuducing the most loathed aspects of cable to the streaming product and acting like people can’t just go somewhere else.

The same as other TV services, it’s industry trend... what is equal is not an advantage! DTV is a pretty good TV service though.

A couple of industry analysts are suggesting that T go ahead and drop Viacom which would recoup up to $1 Billion in savings that could go towards servicing the debt load.

Sure, we risk losing the 2 to 11 year old demographic but those rugrats don't spend money anyway.

Besides, who needs SpongeBob when we can sell them LoufaSteve?

I agree. Also what’s up with pop up messages on a regular tv? Trying to watch march madness and change channels to avoid commercials. Every time you change thete are pop ups for scoreguide, press this to waych from beginning, press that to fill out bracket. I’m trying to watch a game, get this c-ap out of my way. Then there is nobody to call to complain to. Any number you call is s robot.

It also downloads on demand versions of your recordings without telling you, so you cant skip AT&T's horrible ads. Why are they horrible? They cut in at random times instead of scene changes, they last anywhere from 30 seconds to 4 minutes, and its a loop of the same one or two ads for every single ad break. Every. Single. One. Oh, and to show the cunning and power of AT&T's advertising prowess, the ads might be wholly inapproproate for children even though you are watching a kids show. My DirecTV just got surplused, how about yours?
