Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When will layoff stop being a weekly occurrence?

So, when everything is said and done - when the reorganization is over and the dust from the merger has settled - do you thing we will once again reach a point where layoffs are not a weekly occurrence at AT&T?

Is there such future for us, or is that a thing of the past?

I did not get surplused this week but think the culture at AT&T is toxic. Reorg after reorg with the same dumb a-- AVP and Directors who do not engage with the employees, literally ignore them. I've only been at AT&T 3 yrs and it is the worst environment. People cling to their job and stay for the abuse like battered women. Jobs are aplenty no one is holding anyone hostage. I've been interviewing and being very careful to choose wisely for the next step.

I am supposed to do Ride A Longs, 40 classes of Contingency Training, two roles and now absorb the work of two people cut. Not a chance in hell

Been surplused a few times myself. Seen every fiber deployment drastically cut the repair load. Fiber to the cell sites and cable issues disappeared. Fiber deployment for Uverse and F1 trouble disappeared. Seen the steady loss of over a million lines yoy. Only 3 folks in my crew have a landline. Engineering is being told to deploy fiber to all new businesses and multi dwelling units. How much reinforcement work will C&E have in the future when those are turned up? I might not live to see every copper landline decommissioned but the grave is getting bigger everyday and seems like they are deploying bigger backhoes.

For most people, it's a quarterly occurrence. This interval creates a quandary for the disgruntled people in figuring out what to troll about between the quarters. 😜

What is it, management this Fri, and we're done until June?

When att has a higher revenue per an employee. Right now if you take total revenue to employee head count ATT is the lowest of the big 4.

It’s not an apples to apples comparison because of the different business units but it’s still a metric they look at...

never - they have adopted it as a management tool. never have to fire anybody and risk a lawsuit just blame the business needs for getting rid of people. so no matter how many employees they have they will just marginalize and surplus. great place to be!

@giw we don’t stop by while they’re pouring concrete is the point. CATV or another competitor does and makes the sale. Why are all your posts against any type of growth in this company. How do you proffit by constantly spreading negativity about the potential sale or use of any of our products on several posts? @giw name changes but your tracked IMEI is the same. (Think I’m a rookie here LoL) Do you work for ATT or just shorting the stock? What ideas can you supply for growth potential? Who will contact the customer and what will you sell? Do we already provide it? or are you going to sell it 5yrs from now? We have to survive in the mean time. I look forward to your negative attack response.

Not any time in the near future.

If you have ever been on one of the “official” surplus calls, the person leading call has advised, “if someone misses the call or due to the fact AT&T Connect will only hold so many people at one time, these are weekly held calls and there will be another one next week.”

Sad, but true.

Another in a line of stupid a-- posts explaining the loss of old technology. As if a company had 10 employees and only added put in 9 lines because you didn’t stop by while they were pouring the concrete.

We used to sell lines to any new business being built in our turf while working. We’d stop at the new job site, get a contact, follow up, make the sale, do the install. Now you have to account for why you tied down a jumper in 4 minutes vs. 2 minutes. No time to generate new customers unless you want to lose your job. You know what’s going on in your turf. But we’ll let location based adds or employees in the phillipines make the sale instead. How’s that working out? That’s how you lose a million lines a year. id--ts

Not as long as they are losing a million lines a year, continue to build out fiber, and mechanize processes. The acronym AT&T is becoming a dinosaur as far as the work content of the corporation.

I have worked in North Carolina for 20 years. We have had the surplus announcement every quarter on the 15th. This is not going to stop, ever. Some quarters the numbers will be higher or lower. A way of life at T.

Where have ya'll been the past 5 years? T announced Work Force 2020 in 2014, the goals were clear, reduce the workforce, transition the work force. 2020 is next year, goals will be met regardless of impact. Thats perspective for mgt, craft needs to ask their union why they continue to pay dues for nothing.

b---s---! The management here has for years used surplus and displacement as a tool to create cash flow. This started back in the 70's and the 80's. You can dream about the management reestablishing investor/shareholder confidence if you want, but it is an exercise in futility. We as a company have been known to surplus techs's and immediately pay other tech's o.t. and daily allowance to back-fill the surplussed folks and that is only 1 example of the stupid sh-- the company does.

Once we reestablish investor/shareholder confidence by paying down on our debt. Along with cutting cost out of the business to improve revenue. That is the secret sauce to stabilization.
