Sorry, folks, I know a lot of you hate AT&T, but compared to other places I've worked for, this is a cakewalk.
My biggest and pretty much only issue are layoffs. But other than that, it's really not that bad.
I can't be the only one who feels this way. Can I?

It is for a first line. It’s been that way the past decade. That’s why you see very few craft personnel moving into management and less qualified first lines “off the streets” who don’t really understand the job. The craft personnel who do go into management get burned out quick and end up leaving the company.
@YZf4b2g-2zva - You're lucky they will pay you to go pick up that drill bit. On our side, you get to drive on down to Home Depot on your own time and buy one yourself, because "we're all in a pinch and need to do what we personally can to help the company". yeah, ok, whatever! Maybe ol Randy can give up a slice of his pie and pay for some of these REQUIRED tools for the job.
@vxf you are so full of sh-- I am sure you are an att leader. uverse was making money it just wasn't making money like wireless and you have to pay people to lay cable.
maybe you leaders should ask the technical people somethings and who knows the company may just stay out of debt.
dtv was a disaster the whole culture shifted along with the agreement not to lay dtv employees off was all part of the f--- up.

In the SE and you are a CWA contract employee. If you have at least 30 years seniority you get 90 weeks termination pay if you get laid off. That's contact as of now.
There are plenty of Things that s--- here. Job security, all the ever changing procedures to nail the workers with some kind of b---s--- to save the company a buck. Management is horrible, if you get a good local manager it doesn't matter because his hands are tied by higher management. The company does something and then thinks of how they are going to accomplish it. Example buying time Warner and then trying to figure out how to pay for it. My manager can't even order me a drill bit because there is some way to get around it. Instead of buying a $10 dollar bit, the company would rather pay me 40 bucks to drive to another techs job and borrow a bit. With all that said, every job has its problems but for the pay this is a great job

Everyone was treated with respect & the company wanted quality work not about numbers! Customers were treated the same! My coworkers and I loved the job even got to work early every day! Then SBC took over and not at first... but things changed drastically! Then when it changed to AT&T the major Downward spiral begin.
People always say it’s so negative on the posts here, well the company created that. People were happy but after years of getting beat up by the company it took it’s toll. Now everyone I work with is doing the least amount possible and biding their time to retire and get the hell out!!
I used to love working at AT&T - for 20 years.. Was given good to great reviews - went to Summit the last 5 years of my employment and then my VP changed. Was given notice within 90 days of her taking over. WOW! I was offered a lower position in another group that i used to work in - turned it down. Took the money and ran. I took 3 months off to relax. Found a great job - I found life after AT&T. Now I see that I had given my life to AT&T. I thought working 60+ hours a week, getting phone calls at 10 or 11 at night was normal.
It’s hard for me to understand all the negativity on this board towards the company. I have worked here for over forty years and have enjoyed every minute. This job has provided for me and my family very well and am grateful. The company is changing and has fierce competitive issues to deal with. If my job ends tomorrow, I will be forever grateful to this company.

And moving to these new consumption models we are constantly being asked my management “how long does x task take”. Anything longer than 15 minutes and you get backpush. So people are lying about how long things take to please management’s unrealistic demands and then working overtime to make up the difference. This model is not sustainable.
To the poster. EVERYONE enjoys working for T, it's why EVERYONE is p-ss-d. The daily threats of being laid off or fired is terrifying!
For some centers it's like living overseas where bombs are dropping daily. Apparently, your office is not at War/Risk YET, enjoy it
Where else can you have a great career with stellar ratings for years then have it come crashing down in a 45 second phone call with a few hundred others on the same call. Only to have the same “eliminated position” taken over by someone else afterwards? What’s there not to love ?
Then afterwards you get to read the troll comments that it was all because you were lazy old and pathetic and you should have left years ago.
At&T is nothing but a class act.
I used to love my job and did for many years. Couldn’t think of a better place to work. Turned down many other job offers making a lot more money. Since the latest changes, it has become a sweatshop in digital. Most weeks are just plain misery. Tons of hours, very high demands, constantly being berated. Seeing all my teammates look miserable and my boss. I’m planning on leaving as soon as I can find something else.
There is no enjoyment in working for a Company who has no issues with ending someones career ( long before they're ready ) in an effort to fix some absolutely terrible decisions made at the Executive level to go so far into debt.
Have you noticed none of the Executives ever get laid off ?
Especially the ones who made some of the stupidest decisions in the history of business ?

I enjoy what I do, but I still think AT&T Sukks. I hit retirement age two years ago so if they surplus my department, I'll retire to help save a lower seniority position and take the buyout and run far away. My job is easy so it's hard to just get up and leave. I'll stick around until the next contract and make as much money that I can. It helps pay for my hobbies.
Early on AT&T treated you pretty good but it didn't take long for that to go down hill. And since their discounts for retirees sukk, I'll drop them and go with someone else's lower prices. No guilt here. YMMV.

When I started to work for aT&t all those years ago I had not idea I would be here this long. But it has been a blessing to me and my family. There have been times when I was not happy but I needed a job to help take care of my family and that is what AT&T did for me. I know times have changed since I started with the company but its no reason to bad mouth a company that have paid you a salary for how ever long it is, If you get laid off, just find you another job, just like you found this one.. no regrets

Start your own company, then you can make the decisions. Did you think when you got hired by AT&T you would have a say in the financial decisions? You knew AT&T was interested in buying DirecTV since 2014, and AT&T said at the time U-verse was a failure. Maybe you should have transferred out of the TV side of the company if it was failing. Don't tell me 5 years ago there was no opportunities to switch jobs.

we had uverse and it was making money at least that is what I was told but yet we had to buy dtv. we could of done streaming with uverse easily with the money they spent on dtv.
buying dtv k--led the culture along with other items. so please don't tell us about not liking a company that is making bad decisions and just keeps buying one new toy after another just because they can or it makes the ceo feel like a big important man. but I am not related to anybody.
I would hate it more if I didn't get my real skills up on my own time and money. my skills did nothing but waste away at the big T. unless you call paper shuffling a skill then it was okay.
