Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stress could be a synonym for AT&T

In the last three or so years, everything regarding working at AT&T has become stressful. Stressing about constant layoffs. Stressing about incompetent managers who are either looking for a way to take credit for your work or blame you for their failings. Stressing over reduced benefits. Stressing over having to pick up after all the people who were laid off or quit and were never replaced - while their work still has to be done.

Is it like this everywhere? Or are we just that special?

I agree work is work and we have to put our heads down and get the job done regardless of the turmoil ensuing around us daily. However, as the prior post indicated people are acting immoral and vicious....lashing out at people, being downright nasty and rude and that inexcusable. It is becoming normal behavior and should not be tolerated. I can not believe how people are acting and talking down to others on calls. Understandably everyone is stressed these days but it does not give the right to treat others with disrespect....

"Quit whining, do your job to the best of your ability, do as much as you can and appreciate the paycheck and fact you still have a job." Why should anyone feel this way? This sounds like something the lord of the manor might tell a medieval serf. This is not something that a person living in "the best country in the world" should feel.

Corporate America today. No, AT&T is not special. Have friends family working in stressful environments, work late, not appreciated, have quota to meet.

AT&T is very stressful. And I will add one more- people are no longer working well together here. Everyone is throwing their coworkers under the bus to make themselves look better. It is a very toxic work environment.

"Call the wambulance. Heaven forbid the company wants you to work when you’re at work."

Doing my work isn't the problem. Trying to do my work, your work, and all the work from the groups that got laid off is the issue.

If the company you worked for suddenly asked you to triple your workload without any additional compensation, I'm pretty sure your attitude wouldn't be quite as condescending.

Stress is increasing. It is difficult to focus on the job you’re getting paid to do with all the turmoil swirling with the Company. I did get shoulder tapped and have left the Company but I can’t imagine what it’s like to have stayed. Workload the same yet less people to do it. Things need to get done. Deadlines and completion dates to be met. Escalations and road blockages identified in the field. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it. I have empathy for those still grinding. But you do know it’s not going to get better anytime soon. Just do what you can and try not to let the Company stress ruin your health. The goal is to stay employed and get the cash. Good luck.

I agree with the OP. 2 weeks after I came to work at Bellsouth, we had the quarterly surplus announcement. The guys in my group said "Don't worry, you'll get used to it." 20 years later I am still not used ti it.
