As I was laid off recently, I saw many new college hires (start date of June/July). Are these college hires the same as the Leadership Development Program or is this something different? I would hate to imagine how many LDPs were hiring every year. I worked with many people who were part of the LDP program during my 20+ years (3 years away from retirement when I was surplussed) - many times I wondered about the interview process as some of these hires weren't that bright - but hey, these are the future leaders of AT&T!

LDP- requires a masters and 2 year rotations in various parts of the business where you have the opportunity to start as a level 2.
College Hire programs, only requires a undergrad(some have masters) and it’s a 4-6 month training for a specific business unit starting as a level 1 manager.
It’s hard to generalize how good they are, from my experience it’s like any other employees, some are good other aren’t in the right field.
So wait, I move to the philippines or Bratislava and still work for the company ? Any relo packages for this ? lol
Be careful of these geeky goony types of nerds who have nothing better to do than develop software for the technocratic establishment. They are the enemy to mankind and will obey all orders.
Anyone who can complete a computer science degree is a psychopath.
Of the 5 that I sat with, 3 had their Masters in technical degrees and 2 of them from prestigious colleges. I wonder how they landed at AT&T. Doubt if they were coming in at starting pay. All were the kids with a laptop in a backpack. The only office supplies they need is a few pieces of paper and a pencil to jot down notes. They stopped using landlines before they hit their teenage years. One was invited to a couple of cc’s. Asked him if he needed a quieter place. He pulled out his laptop, cellphone and earbuds and was more worried about disturbing me if he happened to ask a question.
Hope so. What this company needs desperately is yet MORE Directors, AVP, VP's etc.
I've built websites too, had a business, degree in business management but can't move up the ladder, wtf.
I have had the opportunity to sit with some of these new college hires. Not everyone of them will pan out but some are scary bright with big time degrees. They seem to be the types that a Google would hire. They also seem to be a cut above the old LDP people. Sat with one young lady who was already building websites on the side for a couple of small businesses to develop a 2nd source of income. They are walking into the door with these types of skills.
Please. Someone take a look at Career Link and see how many open jobs you see in the Philippines, Jamaica, India, or even in Bratislava. We will not be too surprised by the answer. Off shore labor equals cheap labor.
