Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Signed my resignation papers last week.

That was it six years of training and constantly staying ahead of the T curve always ready to learn the “new” way and “right” way to complete the job the company wanted. Always the first in the garage to learn the new demand. Always striving to bust my butt to keep my DE above 88% my Q above 90% and my EFF would steadily hover above 115%. I was told by my manager that he was on a call with the 1st level last Thursday (two days before I presented the letter) that I was his best technician. Six D A M N years with this company. 1,2,3,4,5,6; all washed away with 28 release pages signed by my manager and a swift walk off the property.

I got out at a great time I feel like. 6 from the bottom seniority wise. I don’t feel like I would’ve made the December cut numbers. Ish is getting ready to hit the fan before the next two surplusses that are scheduled. I can’t imagine what the managers will do to us.

It was a little emotional I’d be lying if I said otherwise. I still remember my first job with T. A little Jewish lady I installed a four topper BP two VoIP line all new for her. Buried plant to boot. I was there so long she made me a glorious sandwich for dinner.

I accepted a position with a really great company installing commercial phone systems working with copper and data and WiFi and all the things I like to do. My first week has been amazing. They’ve been there for me at every turn and question I’ve presented. I was even told by another employee to slow down and not worry so much. The boss is a really easy going guy he just wants quality work and a safe working environment. No stress, no Bs, no insurmountable number to hit, no get off the lot in 15 minutes or catch a coaching, no more cones (which is still tough to get over believe it or not) just a job serving customers in the same field, pretty much.

I have a lot to learn with IP dial tone but I believe I’ll be in a better place in five years than I’d ever had ended up with T. My schedule is M-F 8-430. There’s a place for all of us out there beyond this garbage company. Believe in yourself and your skills. Take what you’ve learned from T and build yourself up! You’re a better tech than the other people that applied for that open position at the company that’s looking to add a new hand!

Yep. He has moved on to something else that seems to make him happier, while the the rest of us are lurking on a layoff website trying to find out when the next shoe will drop..

Congrats ! May God bless your future endeavors! Ignore the negative comments! I resigned in april and it’s the best thing I’ve done. It’s no knock at anyone that is still working at T it’s just not for everyone. So everybody with the negative comments needs to grow up. op wasn’t looking for your stupid comments. All you trolls are the reason the work culture is so divided cause your all negative unhappy FUX that complain about everything and don’t do nothing to improve your current situation! Atleast he/she had the BALLS to do something about it. The rest of the unhappy disgruntled pos techs complain and kiss their managers a$$. To all the other great Techs that love their Job I applaud you and hope the best for you and your families. AT&T is nothing without You!

the negative comments to this post are from the very same people that the company needs to get rid of, old timers, entitled, and naturally not very sophisticated. LOL

Some if you think he got surplussed. OP states “resignation papers”. He voluntarily quit.

I don’t know why prem techs think their job is so technical when it’s entry level tech work.

Congrats on leaving and saving someone else’s job. Hopefully you’ll be happy elsewhere but the grass isn’t always greener. I’ve kept in touch with people who’ve left the company and most regret leaving.

Another prem tech acting like his job was some big deal. Bragging how you’ve been here 6 years and about some job you did in buried plant. Now that you’re gone, I’m not sure the Company will survive. Good luck with your new job running inside wire for voip, maybe that will be more your speed.

you got most of the lingo down, but you fukked up at first level manager. First levels don't manager other managers. Nice try. fake story.

Congratulations. I’d say shoot higher and join a real trade union

I'd say to get an education, and find a real job, that doesn't require you to join a union. Get a real job, one that allows you to set your salary, as opposed to one, where someone tells you what your skills are worth. Get a real job, where you can set yourself apart, as opposed to getting in line w/the lemmings. Get a real job, where you can control yourself, as opposed to someone controlling you.

Walked off the property???Not even 2 months to look for a job while on surplus status? Qualify for reverence? I Feel that type of layoff well be more wide spread then you have two months to find a job

Wow what a post!! I’ve seen the same treatment to other co workers at my yard! Out there running around making all the numbers and then they get let go! I’ve always just Nodded my head when they preach all the numbers and the next great thing that comes out...then I just go about doing my job to the best of my ability. And treating the customer with the same kind of dedication, quality work that I would want someone to do at my own house! I never worry about how long a job takes....They’re all different some take longer some shorter just take one at a time do the best I can!

Take the skills you’ve learned put them to good use for a company that really cares about you you’ll be much happier in the long run.

Good on ya mate. Over the last two years, over half of my former DTV shop has moved on and up rather than wait for the axe to fall. Some of the guys have gone into high-end Audio Video work for rich people, others into structured wiring and network builds, some to other public utilities.

All are happier, better paid and actually have real lives where they get to be with their families at a decent hour.

Me... I've only got 13 months before retirement so I'm on the bus until the last restroom stop before Phoenix. If I was younger than 40 - I would bail on this circling turd too.

Congratulations. I’d say shoot higher and join a real trade union for more $$$$$. We’re union but not really, I’m sure you know what I mean.
