Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We need better products and services

"Layoffs won't fix the fundamental problem of not meeting revenue targets. Only better products and services in the marketplace will do that. Management has been too busy buying instead of innovating. Post ID: @YJCNpTl-idt"

This seems to be obvious to everybody but AT&T management. Why innovate when you can buy something new and artificially inflate revenue for a short while? It's not really working out for us long-term, but there's always something new to buy when it becomes clear that the last acquisition did not have the desired effect. Rinse and repeat.

5g is still far away, if uverse is going to stick around at least make newer stb’s that will keep the wheels rolling. Comcast is k--ling AT&T right now with their equipment it’s sad. They have all wireless boxes (including the dvr), real apps ppl actually use like Netflix. Coax is trash but at least their innovative, I remember switching Comcast customers to uverse and them asking “hey do you guys have a voice remote? Are the boxes small? What streaming apps do they have?” Uhhhhhhhhhh.... we have hbo....... :/

5G discussion was a little scary. Seems that even with the very limited deployment it has the potential to eliminate the need to deploy landline facilities to some of the business customers. Mentioned the need for a router only and even that could go away in the future.

Here's a discussion of the 1st quarter call from the wireless perspective.

https://www.rcrwireless.com/20190424/wireless/att-firstnet-build-is-halfway-done-and-boosting-network-improvements-customer-gains

On 5G revenues, AT&T CFO John Stephens said that the carrier doesn’t expect to see significant revenues until next year and the year after, as it ramps up to a deployment footprint of 200 million potential customers covered by the end of next year

So, we're not going to see if this 5G tulip pays off for more than a year from now.

bundles and packages won't save them. you can innovate all you want on the sales side it still won't fix the underlying problem of the company.

Truly said, lay-off can help meet the EPS but revenue will still decline and at&t can’t lay-off forever. They need to come up with better bundles and packages and compete with the competition.
